Being a Tool Maker for 37 years, I have to agree with chuck. You can use lesser quailty indicators, and there fine, they just wont last as long if your using it every day as I do. I purchased a interrapid 25+ years ago, and I still reley on it today. Keeping it clean is a must, I have the inside cleaned every five years or so. On the large dial indicators, never put oil on them, it just drags dirt in them. Just keep them clean and dry and work them in and out, and they will last.
