I really like the way my brothers 2002 dyna wide glide sounds with the Vance and Hines HS pro pipe. The problem with the pro pipe is looks (I have a 2003 FLHT dresser). So I really want true duals.

At this point I'm seriously considering the Rinehart true dual exhaust. The other true duals I may consider are the Hooker or Vance and Hines.

I currently have the screaming eagle slips-ons and definitely want louder sound. However, I am concerned about pipes that are too loud.

What are the opinions on the sound of the Rinehart, Hooker, and Vance and Hine Ovals?

A bud of mine has the Rinehart straight pipes ( with the black end caps ) on his anniversary model Heritage. They are loud. I thought at one time Hooker Headers had a ceramic coating inside them that helped steady the torque band/horse power output, which made them quite loud also. I was at the local bike shop two weeks ago inquiring about some parts, and a wrench who worked there was talking about how loud his buds Hooker Headers were .... claims to be setting off car alarms at 1700 rpm while cruising through his apartment complex. Not a nice way to meet the neighbors ...'specially if you do live there! I've heard lots of V and H's, but not sure which ones they were. I'd think that they aren't as loud as the above mentioned. Best thing to do is go to a gathering of your two wheeled brotherhood and just listen to what sounds good to you. Lots of things to take into concideration when doing that too. good luck

I put the V&H ture duals and V&H ovals on my 05 Road King and they sound great. In fact two of my friends are wishing they went this route. The sound is deep and Harley-like. No regrets!! However, with any header and pipe change I recommend a dyno. I also installed the PC III and set the map as recommended for this set-up. It turns out it was very rich. My dyno tech programmed a custom map and now life is great.

I just bought an 05 RoadKing FLHR and it is waiting for me at home when I get off this deployment. I told my tech to put the ovals on my RK. I want a deep sound thats noticaby Harley but will not make your ears bleed. Is this the way to go?

You will love them! If you can I recommend taking it a step further and go with the V&H True Dual Headers too. My original set up was just the ovals and they sounded great but once I added the headers it was even better. Direct Parts has the best price on both. Good luck and keep the breeze in your knees!!

Sounds like the V&H true duals and the ovals with the PCIII are the way to go for sound. Any opinions on the increase in power? Can the Rineharts and the Hookers be that much better on a basically stock bike?

I'm not sold on the true dual setup for rideability. I've talked to some guys that have the Rineharts on on lightly modified motors and the setup will give some good numbers on the upper end of the rev band but get the motor down to the 2500-3000 range and it doesn't seem like it works that well and that's where you want it to work. The FL's a pretty heavy bike. I'm biased towards a two into one system because I know they work well. Failing that I'd look at V&H ovals with the stock headpipes and open up the intake and go with a power commander/race tuner if I wanted to wake the bike up a little and wanted it to sound and work good. What I did to my bike was the 95 inch kit and opened up the intake and left the exhaust stock. The mufflers are big enough to move the air through the motor without choking it off too badly and I know if I change the mufflers to a more free flowing setup there's more power to be had. Lots to think about... how you ride/two up or solo/ touring or cruising/ are you an agressive rider or a laid back slowpoke like me. I like the Vance and Hines and I'd go with the Hookers over the Rineharts but the Rineharts are quite popular right now.

Just to be candid, I have the Hooker slip ons and the sound is very good.

2 things that I'm not happy about .

1st with the stock head pipes the Hookers do a bunch of pop and rumble on decel and evryone I have asked has said they have it also with stock headers, so I don't think your going to tune it out at least not with a carb maybe with EFI I'm not sure .

2nd if you run with the right pipe open and the left one closed to maximize the HP (like a poor mans 2-1) then they pop and rumble more on decel and with the majority of the exhaust through the right muffler it seems logical to me at least that you should and will have some discoloration on that muffler .

Just my 2 cents...wish someone would of shared that when I was asking.

do ya want sound a mini powerband where HDs do not cruise at or a good deep sound and pipe that'll add some torque in the sweet spot....my 02 wide gilde has slip ons that are well seasoned that were made by same company as SE's used to be made by. They have held up through two bikes and 4 years....... my buddy has an 02 low rider and another has an 02 wideglide with drags... when we pull out they gotta hit third while I am stil pulling in second as same the are leaving third going into fourth and I am just sweet spotting third. We've intentionally shifted at same time(RPM)....I'll take some baffles and a good tone with common engine set-up sense(IMHO) instead of overkill sound and smallpowerband set up...ps my friends both switched this season to a slip on set up and a baffle up the drag.....good wnough for me...but hey I am just another opinion.
