I've been trying to sell a 1997 1200 Sportster all spring and can't seem to get anyone to even look at it. It is a pretty nice bike with lots of extras, custom paint, etc. I have it priced at $6000 and still haven't had any real bites. A few people looking for pictures and that's about it. I don't think it's overpriced comparing it to others that are listed, especially with the extras this one has. Do you guys think this is priced a little high or is it just getting harder to sell these things than it used to be?

You may be running into the same situation the Evo owners had when the twin cams came out. It was felt to be a better design, which lowered the value of the older Evos. In this case, the new Sportys have the vibration damping and the supposedly improved ergonomics. The new vehicle price is at $8,500 or so, if I remember right. Could be that buyers are willing to put out the extra for a new one.

For what it's worth, I rode a 1991 Sportster for 10 years until I bought my FXST in 01. That Sporty was a kick-butt ride. If I were in the market as a serious buyer, your price would seem reasonable. Unfortunately we are getting past the prime selling time. Good luck!

An easy way to get a ballpark asking price is to use cycle trader. Find bikes that are as close to the same year, extras etc. Never use a round number it is proven that someone is more likely to buy something at $4899.99 than at $4900.00 strange but true. For example, you might get some bites if you changed the price to $5995.00
