| I have A three year old custon I built. I have heard that the spyke starters crap out around three years. Which mine just did at 25,000 mi. Are the tornado starters any better. the bike has a 100'' revteck. Which is the best high tork starter out there. Thanks for the help. |

| I have always been fond of Spyke starters.
I don’t think there is any set longevity for starters.
The starters life (IMO) depends on your motors state-of-tune.
The Compression of the motor and whether or not you have compression releases.
But then again, anyone can buy/get a lemon of a starter, it just happens that way every once in a while. |

| We were experiencing starter problems with a custom that has a 100" Revtech. Once we replaced the cables with the thickest ones we could find and added compression releases, all starting issues went away.
Was yours starting hard all along then finally die or did it just crap out all of a sudden? This one was starting hard from day one. Some days worse than others. It progressively got worse until the power cable melted.
Good Luck! |

| Thanks for the input. It is working now. I am not sure what is wrong. I bypassed the relay and it spun so I put the relay back and it starts fine now. Through my research ,I went to spike web site. They recommend you set the crain HI4 switch to kick start.for high compression engines. IT usually starts fine. and I do use compression releases also the second ground to the starter might help. I also bought a spare relay If this should happen again.thanks all |
