Hi everyone,A mate of mine is looking at buying a Honda CL250,1971 model.He has got his learners and was looking for a easy riding bike.It seems to have a worn starter cog.Does anyone know anything about these bikes,as I have tried to search on the net,but no info at all.Is it hard to change the starter cog?Would this bike suit him.He is six foot tall and weighs about 110 kgs.Any info would be appreciated as I do not know anything about these bikes.

I would probably recommend a little bigger bike for your friend. At six feet and 110 Kg (243 lb.) that bike is probably a little small. He will likely outgrow it very quickly. I don't know how much money he has or what type of riding he will be doing but I think I would opt for a larger one. At least a 650 cc. Maybe something a little newer as well that might be easier to get parts for.

In Australia,when you get your learners you are only able to ride mtorbikes up to 250cc.So he can only go to 250cc which makes it a little hard for being a big bloke.He basically will only be using it to and from work.So might not be to bad.Cant go over 60 kmh on the streets.

Ah yes, the ol’ CL’s, I had an old 1969CL250,(well it was not old in ‘74’). It was my first legal street bike. I figure it will work for him until he becomes a fully licensed rider. All I can say about your motorcycle maintenance dilemma is to make sure you found the correct problem, as you said it ‘seems to’ have a clog problem. Do you have any motorcycle junk-yards around you? It’s amazing what you can find in there. Here are some links.

Thanks for the links,already found some usefull info on them.Will tell him to check around a few motorcycle wreckers and shop to sus the problem out first.Cheers
