Have a 1999 Softail (EVO) putting in OEM PART # 32630-96 SE performance ignition module. Is the right move to also install a 40,000 volt high output coil or is the 3 ohm one fine. What should I expect from either of these upgrades? Looks pretty simple to install, any tricks to look out for that isn't in the manual / directions.
Thanks in advance for your info

Depends have you done anything else to the motor?

In and of itself it' probably won't make a big difference

If you are doing cams, pipes heads, carb etc then it will help you with the curve, however make sure you get one that is adjustable, so you can change the timing if needed as you add performance parts.

Nobody can add just one performance part, it's like chrome...

I have a S&S carb and have added pipes but they are just straight pipes (Joker Machine). I think that I will do cams next winter, but I am concerned that adding hardware to the motor may limit the life of the motor. It runs great now 13,000 miles. I would like to get more at the low end. I guess what I wanted to know is if the module will do anything, and if I put the module on will I have to change the coil to make it effective.

My guess is it will lighten your wallet and not create any significant or known performance increase with or without the coil.

I would look to one of the adjustable modules from Crane or Daytona Twin Tech so you can add cams, heads etc.

Without cams or added displacement or increase in compression you should be fine with the stock ignition. JMO, I would go for a good tune on the bike for the carb if I were spending any money An adjustable ignition might find 2 to 3 hp and would be good to invest in it and then do a cam upgrade.
