I recently discovered that my rear master cylinder cover somehow disappeared. I parked the bike last fall with brakes. Then took it for a spin last weekend and nothing, at least in the rear. It must have fallen off during the last ride or something.

In any event, I decided to make one since I have access to some machining equipment at work. I've got it to where it's shiny, it fits and actually looks like I may have bought it. I have noticed that the inside of the ones I've looked at are recessed. Is there a mechanical reason for this or is it just to use less material? I can put the recess in mine but I don't want to go through the hassle if it isn't necessary.

I would have bought one but the stealer didn't have one in stock and the parts guy pissed me off. That's another story. Now it's a matter of principle. Plus I want to ride tomorrow.

Thanks,
Dave

The recess is just a metal saver. You are fine to leave it the way you have it. It saves the motor company about $.05 per piece.... two per bike... a million or so parts in just a few years.... and they have $50k extra. All adds up.

I have to deal with this everyday, I'm a tool designer for prototype parts mostly in aluminum. What you have will work fine, as long as it seals.

Later, Brent

Thanks Brent. That's what I figured. I just wanted to be sure. I didn't want to remove anything I didn't have to.
