| I've been riding since 1966 but never changed handlebars before. I bought a pair of baby apes for an 02 Sportster. How do I get the left grip off the old drag bars without messing it up? Am I correct in assuming the right one will separate when I unbolt it. I would really appreciate any advice.

| i have not heard of anybody haveing good luck removing the left grip, as it is installed with a pretty good adhesive. you can try heat from a heat gun or hair dryer......good luck, but have an extra grip handy just in case.......

| I Just Changed Out My Drags, Get Something Like A Ice Pick Or Even A Small Screwdriver Stick It In The Front Part Of The Grip, Work Your Way Around, Push It In Little By Little, While Turning The Grip With Your Hand And It Will Slowly Break Free. |

| I've had good luck using an old butter knife & some wd-40.Once you get the lubricant inside the grip you should be able to twist it free.Clean the grip out with some rubbing alcohol before re-installing to the bars.Hope this works.
If it does'nt work,I'm pretty sure you can purchase the left grip by itself-or-some aftermarket one's here from D.P.. |

| Why not use this as an opportunity to get some new grips? New bar, new grips? Just leave the left grip on the old bar (in case you decide to change back or want to sell the bike at some point) and not sweat whether you mess it up or it won't attach to your new bars.
Just my 2 cents worth.
(besides, I never had much luck reusing grips on Honda's bars) |

| I agree with 00 wildglide. New bars, new grips. Grips are for the most part, cheap, frustration aint. |
