Okay, so we are going to change exhaust on our bikes. Can't hear our own pipes when sitting side by side with other HD's that have aftermarket exhausts.
Up here there is a decibel limit of 106.
Is there anywhere that has a chart as to what the expected db will be after installing?
Also, I don't want my neighbors to pelt the house with eggs.

Good question Steve, I would think that the individual exhaust manufacturers websites would be the place to start. Find an exhaust that you like, go to their site and look around. Seeing how this is becoming an issue I would think that such a chart would be posted.

a 106 db limit on noise from pipes? That's pretty darned loud. It's also against the law to work in an environment that loud without hearing protection..85 db and up. Killer-B has a good pont on where to find the noise limits. Some magazines used to run pipe comparo's with noise output. I'll offer only this. If you are concerned with making too much noise to keep the peace with the neighbors you may find that you're short shifting the bike to keep things quiet..that ain't a good thing.

I think most have the DB rating or can get them for you, a call to a manuf will do the trick.

Most HD slip ons have a nice deep tone, not too bad.

Most V&H slip ons are a bit louder and deeper.

No matter what you get some a-holes going to pull up and have the baffles out of a set of shorty duals and be louder

Thanks for the tips guys.... Regarding the decibel level, I thought that 106was pretty high myself. 106 DBA is what was relayed to us at the MSF class I took.
The AMA site has the following for my state:

Maximum Sound Level... Max sound level of no more than 106dBA when measured 20 inches from the exhaust pipe at a 45 degree angle (Title 21, Chapter 266:59-a)

But, then there is this on the same page:

Maximum Sound Level... 82dba

My fear is to have the engine run too lean and rely on a flash download from the dealer. I think I would also want to get a fuel pak or some other aftermarket controller to richen it up somewhat.
