A while back I sold a 03 Ultra glide to a friend of mine. A little while after the purches he complaind about it dying for no reason at all. He had no power, nuthin, nada. I had the same problem with it a couple of times. All I did was shut off the ignition wait a second or two then it fired right up. After the second time I took it back to the stealership, they found nothin wrong with it so I figured I'd let the problem develop if there was one and hope it did'nt die at a critical time leaving my ole lady and me stranded. ect... He took it the the same stealership and they told him it might be the ECM. Thats nice, it MIGHT be after the bike is out of warenty. Anyway. I was wondering if it might be a failing battery cell or something simple and if anybody out there had the same dying problem. The bike has a race tuner it is fuel injected, 95" kit.

Cool

Had same problem with a couple of softails.
Check and clean all terminals ensure good contact and that they are tight, This would only be a problem when starting.

Check main relay (In front of rear wheel) as this may be badly corroded (As mine was and also the same happend to one of my mates) this results in total electrical shutdown when moving however the movement/vibration will often reconnect and all appears well til the next time. Can be a bit scarry when overtaking or in the fast lane on the motorway.
Hope this helps.

Check the main circuit relay, it could be overheating and failing, happened on my Heritage 4 blocks from Daytona HD. Pushed it up but they were too busy closing up to help.

Replaced the main circuit breaker and it's never been an issue, you can get one at any auto parts store for about half hd's price just take the old one into an Autozone or pepboys.

Cheap easy fix, if it works, if not at least it eliminates that potential $4-$8

Also check grounds to frame from battery make sure the connections are good.

ECM is a polution control device and should have a 5 year warranty as it's a smog item. At least I'd pressure HD to replace it as a courtesy in that the problem was reported under warranty.

What HRK said and realize that if the lights go out when it happens you know you tripped the 30 amp. Only takes a second or two to cool down and reset. Problem is the ability the carry load goes lower and lower until it just fails entirely.
