I am having problems shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. If I am shifting normally at a slower RPM, then it happens less. If I'm goosing it a tad, it happens quite frequently. In fact, more often than not. I have adjusted the clutch to both extreams( 1/2 turn and 1 turn) with little results. My clutch cable is at it's maximum.
I know it's time for a new clutch cable so my question is "Do I need a new clutch too?"
I have taken the top cover an given the tranny a inspection and all seems well.
Forks and springs look good.
I ride a 02 wide glide. Screamin Eagle mufflers and a K&N air box.
New rings. 28000 miles on it.
Any clutch gurues out there??

you state you know you need a new cable......i would change that first. the stretch may be "gittin" ya......then make sure you adjust "by the book"....then you can make a better call on the clutch itself.....

Is the pressure plate adjuster fully in also? Are you sure you are adjusting it properly? Sometimes people want to adjust the clutch with the cable. The cable adjuster is the "fine" tuning and the adjuster on the pressure plate is the "coarse" adjustment.

My first course of action is to replace the cable.
Yes CD, I am adjusting the plate. According to the book 1/2 to 1 full turn then lock the jam nut down. I then adjust the slack out of the cable.
I was hoping to save a trip back to the store when I go buy a cable.
If I need a clutch I'd pick one up.
Guess I'll try the cable and see what happens.
