Tins&paint

After Painting My Tins, I Pulled My Gas Cap Off To Check The Gas After Ride'n A Full Tank, The Paint Or Over Spray Inside Has Gooed Up And I Removed It. Since This Is The Case, Is It Possible For It To Creep Past The Cap Area? Or If I Spill Gas On The Tank? It's Ride'n Time Here So I Haven't Done A Wet Sand Or Clear Coat Yet. Should I Be Good As Long As I Don't Spill The Gas.

If I were you, I'd go ahead and do the full job, rather than take a chance on spilling even just a little fuel on the fresh surface and ruining the whole job.

i am assuming that you didnt paint into the cap and you taped it off. at that tape line, take some clear fingernail polish and brush it on the line. let it dry and do it again. this will prevent gas fumes from getting under your paint and lifting it. there are a lot of other ways to do this, but you are already done and low balllin it, and that is a good thing!!!!!

That Sounds Like What I'll Try, One Of The Reasons I Have'nt Done A Clear Coat Is Because I'm Not Completly Satisfied With The Job. Theres Still A Little Texture To It Not The Orange Peal. Some Times I Think I Could Have Done It Better With Rattle Can It's Going To Have To Work For Now. I Don't Want The Down Time In Such A Short Season.

Hey Chuck, was it you that posted quite a while back, the procedures for proper painting? I seem to remember passing a post sometime waaay back regarding the procedure, but can't find it. I'm working on some new fenders and want them to come out right, and with my "painting skills" the more help I can get on the matter, the better off I'll be!

Well I Took Some 600 And Did The Wetsand For The Clear Coat. Oooops! Thats Right It Looked Like Crap After The Clear Coat, Plus I Got Some Heavy Spots That Blotched Up. So I Wet Sanded The Clear And Took Some Rattle Can Red. Clear Coated That And It Actualy Came Out Pretty Flat And Smooth. All I Need To Do Now Is Buff The Clear To Get It Shinny. Now With The Red Tank It Makes My Red Orange Fenders Look Faded. Either Way I'm Tired Of Jack'n With It, So I Guess I'll Ad It To The Winter Projects. Maybe Next Time I'll Get It Satisfactory. Probably Will Be Better Off Pay'n Some One To Do It.

actually you learned from your experience......the smoother your surface is when starting, the better the end result. most anybody can shoot the paint, it is the prep that makes or breaks a project. i think you were lucky that the 600 didnt mess you up by sanding through the paint. next time use 1000 grit wet. have fun with it!!!!
