| One way or another you are paying. The 10,000 mile(tires) is something you need to walk in with about a grand if you let HD do it.
Funny thing I saw was when they told a fella to go pick out a coat and some accessories.... he told his frined they were "free" once he bought the bike and the sales person(my buddy) was alone I asked him about a frre jacket... it was right there on the bill of sale the 2,000 in accessories.
A co-worker told me how he orederd his new bike.. I said wow HD spec builds now? He said no the delaer was putting it on!!!! Holy cow this dude is paying 20,000 plus and I do not know if he was smart enough to ask for the original parts they changed out at the dealer!!!
the 1st one out here is about 175 to 300 depending on the HD-bike
Enjoy the ride !!!!!! just do not let them Ride you!!!! |

I might look at buying my third new BMW. I thank you for your input.
Later Ola Ted. | the better the dealer, the better the warranty. as you can tell, some are stealers, and some are dealers. it pays to check around with other owners...you can usually find a mess of them on a saturday, hangin around, and lookin cool!!!!! had to throw that in,,,,so, at one dealer the mods you want to do would not void the warranty, but at another stealer, they would....
and saving your old parts to install if an issue comes up is always a good idea

| The first service is probably the most important service your bike will get. The tech is supposed to check just about everything on the bike and adjust everything to be optimal. All of the normal wear things like clutch, primary, brakes, belt and steering head are checked and adjusted to ensure that nothing is showing undue wear or poor alignment. If you are fortunate, you'll get a good tech and he won't beat the flat rate 3 hours to do the job. I know that many times I get bikes that were set up by hacks and I'll end up putting in more than the aloted time to give my customers their money's worth. Get to know your technicians and if they do you a good job, request them in the future. If you get stiffed by one, don't let him touch your bike again. I don't know of any dealers that give the 1k service away, but you might get them to give you the first oil change that should be done after the 500 mile breakin. |

| In Australia the only obvious cost for a 1st service is the cost of oil and filter, this is standard on nearly every new bike or car. Of course when you buy the bike the labour cost iss already figured into it, hell my Streetglide just cost me $32300 before accessories and the aussie dollar is worth about 84uscents so you can see we get ripped off for HDs over here. |

| When i got my 06, nothing was free. They even made me pay for the strapless hospital gown they have you wear at the closing. sometimes they will give you "a free 1st service" and forget to tell you that they added it to
the total price. some people will wish to impress upon you how special and important they are by telling you storiesof the great deals they get at the steeler; it's a story. oh. . . when i got mine little did i know the inspection sticker was only good for 3 months. the slick, gold toothed fella at the steeler said no problem bring it in we'll put a sticker on em. Never will i ever let such a untrustworthy group of people touch my bike. I found my self a very honest, indepentent who worked for HD around 20 years. he charges about half $25/hr. |

| I stay out of the steelerships. Last time I took my bike in for new tires. Now you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that the tires have a paint dot on them for valve stem location and an arrow for direction of rotation. The day after I picked up the bike, my bother and I took a 200 mile ride. As I was clipping along the e-way at a modest 85 mph, it seemed like the front end was handling different than nomal. When we got back I looked at the tires. And sure as Shi** the front tire was mounted backwards. Rotation arrow was going in the wrong direction. Just glad it wasn't raining. With the tread design and the tire on backwards, the water would have been chanelled back to the center of the tire.
So I take it back to the steeler and they just didn't no what to say. It took them 2 1/2 hours to change it while I waited. The service manager offers me a free oil change for my troubles. I said how about a new seat or something. You charge $80.00/hr for labor. Told him the inconvenience and my time was worth a lot more than a $40.00 oil change. Well I didn't get the new seat and haven't been back since. Do all my own wrenching now. |

| while were stealer bashing, when i bought my new streetglide the salesman was an honest and straight forward man, the title/finance dude was an ass to myself and wife we almost walked out. blew it off but returned for some access. and he again treated us with disrespect, ibrought it to the attention of his super, his super/buddy proceeded to pissonmycherriois(it is un advisable to get on my bad side and then pissmeoff) they both failed to realize who gives thier job reason, i reminded them by taking thier jobs, the owner also done some serious reorganization of staff shortly following, and belive me my wife or i walk in we are treated with the utmost respect, it is unfortunate when busnesses forget who pays thier bills. |

| Just wanted to address the free service and warranty issue, not true.
Just because they give it free doesnt mean you have to use them although you'd be stupid to pass it up from a monetary sense.
What the Magnusson Moss act governed by the FTC says is "if the manuf requires the use of their replacement parts to keep a warranty valid then they MUST supply them free of charge" that's the free part.
Putting on performance parts doesn't void a warranty, nor does aftermarket parts, unless the dealer can prove the part caused the damage. Say you put on Performance Machine brakes and your trans takes a dump, no way they are related, so that wouldn't void a warranty.
Now you pop on a PCIII and your ECM takes a dump, they still have to prove the PCIII caused it but you'd have a harder time because they interface, point is they have to prove it.
If you get into that situation call for a HD Zone rep to look into the situation and find a new dealer.
This applies to HD, BMW, Yamaha, Chevy, Hoover , any thing with a warranty. |
