I have a 99 twin cam with 20,000 miles getting ready to service and am thinking about changing from harley 20 50 to one of the other brands. Mobil 1, royal purple, rev tech semi synthic any body have any great ideas or is oil just oil. I have a couple of engine upgrades, fueling oil pump, new cam plate and woods cam.

any of them should be fine. You may check further throught the Tech section for other threads on oil.... MUCH info available on this topic. You can also do a SEARCH on oil......should come up with quite a bit. SOMEWHERE in there is a link for Bob the oil guy or something like that....even MORE good info. Good luck, and enjoy!

I've been using H-D SE Synthetic..... Except in the Tranny. Followed suggestions from the board here & put in Redline Heavy Shockproof to help reduce 4th gear whine. It seems to help a little.

They say that synthetics reduce the engine heat a bit.... If that's true I'd hate to see what it's like using regular oil. My bike & my thighs gets unbelievably hot during the summer if you have to sit still for a while. Someone should come up with asbestos shorts! :-) (06 Ultra)

yes they do get warm.....they have to run hotter to meet epa emissions, and to burn the crap fuel we now have come to hate!! .....there are shields and dropover leather covers to help keep your legs from blistering. i choose to keep moving to keep the heat off my legs!!

Best thing for the hot bike is to get a stage 1 and have it properly tuned they are so lean it makes them hot. If you have a bagger a set of true duals will help lower the temps under the right side.

Syn seems to help keep temps down and is easier than putting on an oil cooler.

Heavy shockproof works great in the trans and doesn't bother gear change speed it will make it smooth, you really see this if you have an older trans design like on an evo based bike.
