| Anyone here interested in tool rentals for changing out cams in their Harley TC88's? I'm ready to do an upgrade myself and was going to buy some of the tools. There was a rental program started on another motorcycle forum where the tools could be rented and returned... kind of like Netflix for bikers
I thought of starting my own rental with a single set of tools since I need to get a set anyway. If anyone thinks this sounds like a good idea let me know.
Also, if anyone has any of the JIMS or other Harley related tools they want to sell contact me with what you've got. I have all my parts (big bore cylinders, andrews cams, cometic gaskets) so its just a matter of getting the right tools. |

| Yes, I'd keep it to members only and ask for a reasonable deposit that would be refunded upon return. This should ward off any tool thieves. |

| I would hope that members of our forum wouldn't be tool thieves, but hey, you never know I guess. What about breakage? For me, everything I touch usually breaks....Oh wait, maybe I shouldn't have said that.....Don't bump me off the rental list just yet. Just a thought. |

Just a thought. | You break it, then the rest of the group gets to beat you with it ... just kiddin... sorta
Hopefully these tools will either be strong enough (even for you Voodoo) and also come with some sort of breakage warranty from the manufacturer. Since most people usually end up using such tools only once, it makes sense to have a way to rent them for short term use.
I'm putting together a list of tools needed, and it looks like so far I'll be getting at minimum the JIMS cam tensioner tool, the Jims cam removal/installer tools, and the cam crank lock tool.

| maybe put a list together of members specialty tools that are willing to share (quality ones only) and so you don't have to keep an inventory moderate the transition of who has to who needs and the deposit monies are held in escrow by you |

I don't know if you've checked these guys out yet, but they make tools to the same high standard as Jims but they are much cheaper. These guys were unavailable or unknown to me yet when I did my last work, or I may have bought the tools then. http://www.georges-garage.com/
I need to use another set again this year, but the deposit for my last rental was so high (because you need more tools if working with the chain drive cams), that I think I'll just buy them this time through the link above. I should only need the inner cam bearing puller and installer and a set of oil pump alignment pins....should run me about $150.00 for those items.
Since my father in law and myself plan to keep our bikes forever, and we both rack the miles up somewhat quickly, we may as well have the ability to get in there and service the bearings when needed. |

| I keep seeing reference about having to do upgrades to the cams or cam bearings on a Twin Cam.
From what I read it's not a matter of if, but when. Is this true?
I thought HD got the bug's out of this after a few years of production. At least that's what should have happened. |
