| Ok, so here is a question for whoever can answer it!! I just got a King Tour Pak (ebay), no part numbers or anything on the box....Not a clue as to what year it was made. So, here is the question.... will ANY of the King Tour Pak BACKRESTS fit all models?? I just want to make sure that they are all the same..or close enuf to allow me to get a back rest.....really don't want to have to haul this box into the HD shop to find out which backrest will fit if ALL of them fit...I have the 2004 EGlide Standard (think this was the first or second year for the tour seat to NOT have the cusion buttons so is smooth). Would like to get the same look on the backrest...no buttons. Just need to make sure of fitment. I have never really looked to see HOW the HD backrest mounted, so don't have a CLUE on fitment! Thanks to any that can help!!! Oh, if this helps: box LOOKS like it has seen some use...not new, but in good shape. Still no idea of year production, just looks like it has seen MANY road miles! Thanks!

| So, I hand carried my "new" tour pak into the HD shop today to figure out what "year" it may have been made in....no numbers on the whole thing. They finally figured out that the King Tour Pak lettering on the lid was AMF script.....the latches were the "old style", and as I needed a new lock (this one didn't come with the lock tumbler....) that this tour pak was produced somewhere around 1985ish era..... Still in pretty good shape, needs a spot of paint, and the only backrests that I have found so far that fit PRE 96 are the pillow look rests....I have the stitched look seats....SO, am going to have to do some looking and thinking.
Something else that I have thought on, but have not had time to look at further is mounting.... I have the 2up detatchable trunk mount kit/frame/ect for my 2004 E Glide Standard... I am HOPING that the BOTTOM of the TRUNK and the HARDWARE that I already have will mount strait up...if not, I will have to think on a way to be creative!!!! (anyone with info on this match up...would be helpful!!) |

| I think ALL of those early backrests were pillow tucked. One alternative is to buy an old one and take it to an automotive upholstery shop. Have them redo it to match your seat. Might still be cheaper than what HD charges for their new ones (which don't fit anyway).
Is it a full backrest like this?
This one is selling for around 60 on ebay and may be worth it just for the backing hardware, which a good upholstery shop could work around to make you a brand new one.
Let us know what you find. |

| Ken,
That looks like exactly what I need....tried to go through mustang, they have one that fits the 1986 and newer that is smooth stitch...loved it, but as I can not GUARENTEE the year of my tour pak (and the HD shop indicated 1983-85), I am not going to go with them... now, on ebay, I have been doing some looking....must be using the wrong keywords or something....was doing searchs for tour pak backrest....and all that I saw were coming up fitting 1997 and newer.....what keyword did you use to find the older one??!! Also, looking at the back of the rest does no good for me.... there are no holes or anything on the tour pak, so I have NO CLUE as to how it mounts...have to get a backrest that fits and go from there! Thanks!

They appear to be 1997 and later or 1996 and earlier.... mustang only goes back to 1985 and says that anything earlier has a different curve and their backrest won't fit it. Appriciate the offer tho!!! |

| So, have now mounted the tour pak, required some modification due to width of luggage rack (10.5 inches) and width that the TOUR PAK would allow (max of 9 inches).....had to build things up a bit. Anyway, here are the pics, whole process. worked pretty good I think, tho need to go for a ride and check things out! Looks like 5 pics is all per post...here are the first 5! |

| Looking pretty good there AFNurse. Did you do the diamond plate work yourself? Nice setup..looks like it just bolts right on.
Hope the weather's good for riding there in SA..we're supposed to get up into the 70šs next week here in Las Vegas, but I'll be too busy to ride most likely. Got my critical care assignment for clinical in ER where I wanted..start Sunday morning. Still working the NICU on Friday nights. |

| SK,
Diamond plate I got at Lowes....12x24 inches...borrowed an electric die grinder....cut the plate in half.....went ok.....put on safetly glasses and leather gloves....didn't help the rest of my face or arms!!! one step at a time I drillled the plates out....one inside the box first, lining up the holes. I drilled out and attatched the bottom plate to the rack very carefully so all 5 holes would line up....then when I had all mounted, put the rack on the plate (bolts held in place temporarally) so that I could figure out where they went. Drilled them out, then bolted the rack to the plate with the 1x1 tube in the middle.....worked out very well!!!
I wish you much luck in the ER!! I am going to be leaving the NICU....have enjoyed working there, and learned LOTS, but they are going to move me to an adult Post Op unit. I will be oriented to the unit, refreshed on how to take care of adults, then I will be moved into a Shift Leader/leadership position as the floor is full of junior officers and I am a senior nurse. Will be a good step for career.... I will miss the NICU, but.....20 years calls....and working NICU will not get me promoted.
You're going to ride around the US after graduation right?! Don't forget a stop in San Antonio!! You are welcome a drink and a bed if you need it AND I am not deployed to sands unknown!! |

| Back to MedSurg, eh? That'll remind you of all the disease processes you don't see in infants. Good luck on the promotional aspects of it all..you deserve it after all these years. Wish I could've done nursing in the military and I'd have stayed in for sure.
I'll do everything to look you up coming through Texas. And here's hoping you stick around Texas for a while too! |
