I have a 95 flh, I have taken the bike completely apart to create a fire bike project. i have powder coated the eng, trans, wheel, brake calipers red. I also am painting the body parts red. and polished rotors, front forks, and a few areas of the motor... well enough about the project my question is the eng heads, jugs, and case I powder coated all the areas that the bolts go thru and I was wondering if I would have to remove the powder from these areas due to torqueing the bolts and eng heat? ihope I explained this well. |

| the answer is yes....all the threads will need to be tapped, and the holes may need opening to allow the bolts to go through....normally the coater will plug these holes so the coating doesnot go into these areas.....have fun and keep us posted on the progress.....sounds really nice....oh ya....post a pic or two!!!

| thanks for the reply, I understand that the holes and threads need to be tapped. I did the pwder coating myself and I did tapp and plugged the holes but when I sent it to have a valve job the guy said the the area where the bolt / washer rest against needed to be clean, he said that the pwder would soften and cause the head to loose it's torque when it got up to temp. I never heard of that so I was not sure. also he mentioned that the surface where the head rest on the jug needed to be resurfaced because of the temp. that I needed to cure the powder ( 400 degrees ). I was just double checking because it seemed expensive 320.00. I would use the guy again if he is really looking out for me and not looking to jack up prices....

| you did a nice job!!!! did you use the eastwood system????
as for mating surfaces....they need to be clean, metal to metal. adding paint, ect. will effect touques and expansion,contraction......

| ok well I guess I will need to remove the powder on the eng. case bolt area.
