So, I am looking into doing my head pipes.....was/am thinking about V/H true dual headers.... maybe changin out the muffler from Sampson Oval Rolled Thunder to something that keeps the rumble but is a bit quiteter....(what that would be I have no idea!). The shop told me that another option would be the Rhinehart True Duals....they go from header all the way back....told me that when running low RPM, the were pretty mild noise wise, but really "come alive" when you dig into the throttle..... Anybody have any good info or comparison info??!! have had them both and know what change it made? Any info appriciated!

I don't personally have these but a buddy of mine does. He did the exact same thing, changing from V&H ovals to a full set of Rhinehart true duals. The lower end (idle thru midrange) is mild and deep, but really barks when you twist on it. The only draw back he reported was the idle became slightly rougher unless he increased it to above 950 rpm. He also said there was a slight decel pop after changing, but that may be his tuning.

I have the 04 FLHT injected....with PCIIIr, and my idle is already somewhere in the 900-1000 range.....when warmed up. I have heard GREAT things about the quality of the chrome and workmanship on V&H, have not really looked into the Rhinehart....how is their quality? Also, I would assume when you say it is mellow low thru mid range, that it stays mellow with gentle acceleration? I am thinking of later nite/early moring getting in and out of sub division...... With what I have, also alrady have some decel popping, if/when I change out the pipes, I want to put it on a dyno and that SHOULD help eliminate this.. Thanks for the info!

Personally I like a rough idle. Like it's gonna stall on every revolution. My old Pan was like that. (To much cam LOL)

If you have a tc turn up the idle or be prepared to rebuild that motor sooner than you should, your oil pressure will drop big time. not a good idea.

RH's are good quality, loud when you're on them nice on a cruise expensive

V&H headers will take any slip on for your bike, so if you want to find a quiet pipe look to supertrapp they have a quiet performance muffler as does S&S

I know 3 guys that have the Rinehart true duals system and believe them to be the best true dual system on the market. They have a nice low throaty sound at idle and sound great when you crack the throttle. The do offer a quiet baffle also. The header pipes are a new design. They are 1 3/4" at the head and step up to 2" or 2/14" at the muffler. The front header pipe has a threaded port for an 02 sensor.

Two of the guys are running with the PC III. The other is running Zippers Thunder Max. He claims it is a superior product over the PC III. But hey, everyone has an opinion. He was originallly running the Terry Components module, which was supposedly design just for the Rinehart system. He could never get the TC system to work right, so he sent it back and went with the Thunder Max.

He does not have any idling issues and the throttle is right there when he jumps on it at any speed. He is at 900 rpms at idle. I'm told that the TC88 requires a minimum of 650 rpms at idle in order for the oil pump to be able to pump enough oil to lube the whole engine. I'm running a carb and have mine set at 800. One drawback to the RH system, if it is one, is that you have to use their slip-ons. Due to the step up design, other slip on mufflers will not fit their headers.

The Rinehart system is about $900.00 direct from Rinehart. If you decide to go with them let me know. My brother in-law got them for just over $500.00 delivered to his door.

I would be interested in where he got Rinehart TD for $500. I have priced them on line and around here. $800 seems to be the going rate. Thanks.

I did some MORE checking and reading today. I am going cross eyed. Both of my local independent bike shops as well as the big HD dealer say Rhineharts are the best. Hands down. Could also be a higher profit margin? Hey just food for thought. Anyway, I think at this point I am going for the Rhinehart true duals, S/E breather, Power Commander IIIusb and a custom mapping job, as opposed to the PC canned maps. It is my understanding that a pair of slip ons, no matter whos, don't increase the amount of air going through the moter. More air in and more air out, along w/ remap = more horses!!! yeah!! Still would be interested in a pair of $500. True Duals

My borther in law got his Rinehart true duals two summers ago for $505.00. Not sure what the current pricing is. But you can check it out at mandmcycles.com. I'm sure they will still be much cheaper than going direct to Rinehart. Rinehart sells them now with 2-02 sensor ports.

When you go on their site plug in the part number from the online catalogs they have. This will give you their price for the item. If you get the Rineharts dont't use the exhaust seals they send with them. They are flat, not cone shaped like the HD seals and have an tendency to leak. Use the stock HD exhaust seal. My brother in-law used the 3" baffle in his setup, they sound great.

Let me know what you find.

Correction on the Rineharts. My brother in-law did not get his from M&M Cycle, mandmcycles.com. He got them from some guy in California. He is going to try and get the info for me so I can pass it on.

I did check the price at M&M Cycle. They want $730.00 for true duals up to the 06' models and $660.00 for 07' models. Sorry for the mistake.

I have Rhineharts on my 05 Electra Glide with the performance baffles and they are great. Nice and mellow at idle to mid and sound off at full throttle.

been looking at pipes and slip-ons and of course I want them for nothing and I found a true duel supplier in the colo springs area I believe and he will sell his for 175.00 stainless and you use al your old flanges and heat shields. also taking a look at the bassanies, and rush but every body is claiming the rinharts are the best. also I would go with the slip ons as there is less replacement cost if you damage a muffler.

i have a friend that just put a set of rhinharts on his 05 electraglide standard....he doesnt like them...actually he doesnt like the sound...they are extremely loud. after looking at them, they appear to be straight pipes, no muffler pipe at the end, one piece all the way. they have a baffle inside, it appears to be removable. i would remove them and wrap with muffler wrap. they are extremely loud....in my younger day they would be killer, but being a grey beard with tunes on the bike....i want a bit quietier. we will experiment with the baffels and see what i can come up with for a lower tone. he does like the tru duals part tho.....

If you really want to know how the Rineharts sound, get behind someone who has them installed and see if you are still able to hear anything but ringing in your ears after a couple of hours. Yes, they do sound great for a short time, but those buggers are LOUD!!!. True Duals with V&H slipons put out a mellow sound but aren't quite a obnoxious when group riding. You also can't sneak in late at night without waking up the old lady and the rest of the neighborhood and you'll set off every car alarm as you come down the street.

HEY MAN, I LOOKED AT ALL THE PIPES AND MUFFLERS OUT THERE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH, I KEPT THE STOCK PIPES BUT WENT WITH THE V&H CLASSIC SLIP ONS, GREAT SOUND NOT TO LOUD GOOD RUMBLE AT CRUISING SPEED, NO DECEL POP AT ALL, THROTTLE RESPONSE IS GREAT, WE HAVE BEEN ON TO LONG RIDES, RIDING TWO UP, MOST OF IT TWO LANES HERE IN THE EAST TENNESSEE MTNS. AND WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA MTNS. FUEL MPG IS 50.5 AND I DON'T PUTTER AROUND. MY BIKE IS A 07 ROAD KING SCREAMIN EAGLE WITH THE 110 CUBE, AND SAVED A LOT OF MONEY BY GOING WITH THE V&H FUEL PAK INSTEAD OF A PC OR ANYTHING ELSE THATS OUT THERE. WITH THE FUEL PAK U PROGRAM THE NUMBERS IN SUPPLIED BY V&H INSTEAD OF TAKING IT TO SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR UM, BEST THING ABOUT THIS SYSTEM IS IF DOWN THE ROAD U WANT TO CHANGE EXHAUST OR ANYTHING ELSE U REPROGRAM IT YOURSELF, NO EXTRA COST

Ok, a while back I had started looking for info and opinions on slip ons vs true duals. This brand and that. Well after way to much research and listening to every bike I could, I chapse to bite the $ bullet and go with the Rinehart by Bub true duals. I know someone had posted something about the being loud on a long ride. Well they do offer a performance baffle as an option. There also is touring baffle, but the one that is included is in the middle. I have been really pleased with them. They have a really deep, feel in your chest sound at low RPM and idle. They are loud enough to be heard but smooth out when you back off or get to a cruzin speed. Still quiet enough at that point to still hear the radio. Thats my 2 cts. worth. My suggestion would be, if your concidering them, Look around and it won't be too hard to fine someone with those black tips. Track tham down and talk to them. Most are happy to tell you about what they have done to their bike. Also installed myself on a 06 E-Glide. Also added Power commander and S/E breather. Downloaded map but also had it Dyno tested. LIKE IT A LOT!!!
