Have a hot start prodlem on a 95" build I did last winter. SBC scotsman head job 9.5 to 1, Andrews26, Mikuni42 and D&D slip-ons. The results have been great! 90 hp and 101 tq but as I stated I have A hot start problem. It starts great cold or after it sits for 10 or 15 mins.It seems to come down to too much internal travel in the lifters and a bleed down problem that allows the valves to close causing a diesel like condition to occur when the motor is hot. SOooo it seems I need A high quality lifter with more oil capacity and less travel. any reccomendations? Thanks to all for your help!

I'm running a very similar setup but never experienced that problem. Seems to me that the lifters would bleed down regardless of temperature, to a certain extent.

Are you using adjustable pushrods, and if so have you tried adjusting them?

If you are set on replacing the lifters then Feuling makes a good set and still cheaper than SE. Still cheaper yet very good are the ones by Jims. Personally I think the stock lifters that come in twins these days are very good and capable of handling most mild to mid performance builds. Most people replace their lifters to achieve better performance with high lift cams or higher rev hp limits.

another hot start problem may be starter related....or battery and/or connections. a dragging starter will work good when cold, but act like something is binding when hot. a load test will check this out. just a thought

What is your cyl cranking pressure

When it's hot try this to start,

Don't touch the throttle, just bump the starter button lightly, enough to get the motor to turn a little.

Then Pop and start like normal, adding fuel to a hot motor basically increases the cranking pressure and can cause your problem

Also make sure you have a fully charged battery, low cranking from a battery will cause this.

I had a 95 with 220 psi per cyl and it had similar issues, but you bump the starter and it fixed it. Or you can put in 5th and roll the bike back and forth a bit to move the motor, in some cases the cam position would close the intake and exh valves and you're trying to start it at full pressure, just moving a bit helps.
