| Oil Transfer Valve I have a 75 sportty, It has an oil transfer Valve in the primary, looks like it lets pressure from the primary into the motor, but thats a guess......My problem is that it lets motor oil into the primary, and then my clutch gets sticky,I cleaned it out and maybe I might be ok now....but was wondering if it could be plugged ?????,anyone have any ideas...Hope to go riding soon...we'll soon as all the snow melts......

| There's a one-way valve that returns excess oil back to the crankcase, but it should allow oil to pass back to the primary. I wouldn't plug it, but if it is exchanging oil in both directions it probably needs to be changed or have the check ball replaced along with the seat lapped.
Also if you are having a lot of oil passing into the primary it could be the oil seal around the sprocket shaft. It's very common for that oil seal to be put in backwards by shops or home wrenches causing the oil transfer to continue no matter how many times its changed. Installed correctly along with a properly operating check valve you shouldn't see that problem any more.

| oil transfer valve The sprocket shaft oil seal is good but I also replaced it,it is installed correctly. To my knowledge of this valve it shouldn't let any motor oil into the primary(they take different oils).I did see oil running from the valve into the primary and I cleaned it and it stopped ,we'll for now anyways.was just wondering if this valve could be plugged so it don't leak anymore oil into primary,it messes up my clutch...Thanks for the reply Ken |

| I would still avoid plugging it. Your cleaning probably solved the problem but in case it occurs again you should look into servicing the valve as described. I haven't had my coffee yet so I can't remember why exactly it was that Harley put that valve there in the first place... but its needed.
