Hi All,
I have a 1967 FLH, installed a JIM's top end oiling set-up. Roller Rockers, Powerglide pushrods, Jim's lifters and housings. My front exhaust rocker has gotten noisey, I'm thinking maybe the lifter isn't pumping up good...any suggestions? I have the stock oil pump.

Chuck, are the PG pushrod's adjustable? If so it might have come loose a bit & need's to be reset, It's been a while since i've worked on A shovle But mine had adjustable pushrod's , if they don't double check the lifter to make sure it's oilyn right ,

I would check that that there isn't any slop in your pushrod,or at least try to compare it with the other ones, set the cam at the lowest position and roll the pushrod, see how much slop there is and compare it with the others, maybe the lifter is bad,if the pushrods are adj.you need to readjust,I'm not an expert on the flh ,just trying to help.At least this would tell you if ths pushrod is set correctly, might be something else,I have a friend who has a 66 so I'll ask him what he thinks about your problem.

Thanks for the ideas, I'm thinking I may need a high volume oil pump (S&S) to get a better supply to that front lifter, I've already been through the adjustments and it's still noisy.

Ususally if it's an oiling problem you will notice it much more during idle and the noise should deminish when the revs get up around 2000 rpm. If the push rod is properly adjusted you may have a bad lifter. Jims products are pretty reliable, but they can be bad from the box as any manufactured item. If you don't have too many miles since rebuild, you might try swapping lifter position to see if the problem moves with the lifter. But if you're determined to get the more efficient pump, it sure wouldn't hurt.

In that you did the work I'll presume you know how to set adj pushrods up.

Doing it wrong can sure mess up your day.

Sounds to me like a pushrod out of adjustment

before you spend more money on the problem, let the motor cool and the lifters bleed down, get the cyl where the rods are on the back or base circle of the cam.

Loosen and then readjust, make sure the liftes have bled down all the way.

My bet would be on a slightly loose pushrod, but don't over lengthen the rods!

i would swap lifters...it is a new build so wear shouldnt have set in yet....if the noise moves, the lifter is the problem. if it stays you may have a blockage in the oil system to the front lifter. let us know what ya find!!

Thanks

Hey y'all, That lifter swap is a great idea! never thought of that, but it keeps me from havin' to buy a lifter to replace one that may not be a problem. I'll try it and get back to ya! I'm also still leaning toward the S&S oil pump.
