| Hello, New Guy Needs Help Have A 98 Evo, Just Installed New Plugs @ .040" New Wires And New Coil As She Was Popping Out The Exhaust When Cold And I'd Get A Spit Out The Carb After Decelerating Then Getting Back On The Throttle. Ran Great At First With The New Parts But After 50 Miles Starting Doing It Again. Runs Ok After An Extended Warm Up (15 Minutes But Seems Low On Power And Still Spits After Decel Then Back On Throttle. What Should I Do?

| Couple of things to look at. First make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks and that you have a good seal at both the intake and your exhaust flanges. Check your connections at your VOES switch as well. If you have done any adjustments to the carburetor make sure you have the mixture screw adjusted correctly.

| Sure does sound like an air leak. While it's idleing, spray some WD40 on the seals of the intake mainfold. If the motor starts to stumble or decrease idle, you've found the leak. Don't get too carried away with the spray and get it up into the back of the aircleaner or it will surely stumble.

| Have a '96 FLSTC. Mine acts the same when cold, during the cold weather. I checked for intake leak, and also the enrichner for it sticking on, but nothing. She's just cold natured... As soon as she warms up, it's balls to the wall... Don't know... Maybe she's cold natured... |

| Did you buy the bike new? And how long have you had it when it was running good? Most of time, and it is my experience, not opinion, that popping and caughing is fuel/air related. Aslo, is it Carbed or injuected? |

| if it starts pretty well you could try advancing the timing a degree or two it might make it run a little warmer |

| popping on decel I had the poping trouble once>>it turned out to be the round exhaust gaskets in the heads>>I put in the screaming eagle exhaust gaskets in along with stainless steel flat washers & stainless 5/16 nuts & lockwashers& it was cured>>have about 8500 miles with this setup |

| It is more than likely one of the things mentioned above, vacuum leak or carb. What kind of carb are you running? If you try all the above suggestions and none of that works than my guess would be valve timing, possibly a slightly bent stem, that is not too likely but then again you run into all kinds of strange things. I assume you are running hydraulic lifters you could check them to make sure none of them are colapsing and readjust the pushrods. AL |
