Cracked Engine Case on Early EVOs 84'-89'

Hi Everyone!
This might not be a new topic for some of you that have been here a while, but I would like some imput as I'm new here.
Anybody else have trouble with cracked engine case on early evos, 84'-89' , on right side (tappet block side) between cyl. holes out side edge "V" shaped near front right rear cyl. stud and rear right front cyl stud. You can remove part of cyl. deck of case.
Any imput would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Charlie

Hi..sorry I'm not going to be of much help but I've heard of cases cracking..My first EVO was a '90. Most guys running performance motors went with S&S, Sputhe, or Delkron back then.

Yeah up to '92 or '93. The steel inserts were prone to leaking too, not HD's best effort by any means.
When doing a hop up(more than a bolt in cam, pipes and breather) on those engines if a set of cases wasn't included in the parts list,it was a big gamble, even with just a bolt in cam it was risky. Boring them to 3 5/8 was outta the question. S&S woudn't even list a Super Sidewinder kit for '89-'93.
The lifter and piston bores were just a little too close together + the sand casting left you with a pretty weak block.
