Amsoil vs HD syn

I have read much on the debate between Amsoil and HD Syn3 oil's and have decided to give Amsoil a try. Now, the question of which weight. I read many opinions and am looking for one more. I am thinking MCV 20W-50 in the crankcase and primary while putting SVG 75W-90 in the tranny. This will be for a 2004 sportster with SE free flow air cleaner, V&H straightshot pipes and the carb rejetted in case that info help sway anyone's opinion. Thanks for the help.

The weights are fine, just what ever you use, change the motor oil often. These kind of questions just open up a endless debate about brand names and Syn VS. Dino so again use what ever brand you believe is right for you, and change it often.

Yes, 20W-50 would be fine for your engine and 75w90 gear oil in the transmission. Big Twin on the other hand run best IMHO with 20w50 in the crankcase, 10w40 in the primary, and 75w90 in the tranny. I know for a while HD was recommending their Syn3 for all applications (engine, trans, primaries) but I along with many others believe that's much too light for use in the trans.

As Reese mentioned, there have already been enough debates on here and hundreds of other sites about brand so that is now avoided here. Pick a brand that you trust and stick with it. You should be fine.

Yeah, in fact the oil debates of the past became so annoying that it had to be given it's own rule.
