| Hey guys, this will be my first post but I've been lurking long enough to know that you guys are prety good with your advise..
Being a long time automotive technician(some pronounce that greese monkey), I'm a BIG fan of fuel injection.. Now I realize that Harleys FI is more like the '80s car version and not really advanced yet, but I dont care much for carburetors in general.
I've come across several deals(at least they sound like deals) on Harley injection units. My first question, why would someone remove it? Next, would it be worth the trouble to adapt it to a '94 Wide Glide? Then, what would I need? These deals always show the manifold and injector with some wiring, surely it will need a processor. Doesnt it have a MAP sensor and O2's?
I've had a couple of Harley in the past, but nothing with FI. I recently got this bike and it runs great, dont need to change anything, but its the car guy in me that wants the electronics.. Some of you guys will think I'm nuts, but I'm still in the curiosity stages and may not even go this route.. Plus the boards seemed a litle slow this week and I thought since you guys might have a bit of time I'd just throw the question out there..
Thanks,
Greg |

Greg | efi..vs...carb.... will be a debate for a long time. the units you see on the market are from either owners who like carbs....or....people that did enging mods and wanted better efi. i prefer carbs, altho, the more i read about efi, the more i understand them. carbs are simpler and cheaper to upgrade for engine mods. a dyno is not normally needed when doing them. efi upgrades require dynos to be sure that eng. damage doesnt result. also, there are a plethera of control mods out there for controlling the efi........that is what boggles me.....which one, too much reasearch that cuts into my riding time....so i guess im a bit lazy there....rather be ridin than tunnin'.......i like carbs.......................oh ya, im also very old school |

| Me too... I was a "grease monkey" for 11 yrs. Some of these advancements is what pushed me out the door. Give me a gool ole' carb any day. Have done some work on my Jeep w/ an efi. They are somewhat easier though than they used to be... But I agree with Chuck... Carbs rule!!! |

| Well, I can respect the carb preference.... Wouldnt have one on a car though.. Too many reasons for me not to.. Plus I'm real comfortable with EFI and carbs can be too finiky in my opinon.. I'll probably keep my CV, but the EFI idea is appealing to me.. Thanks for the replies... |

| do a lot of "googeling"......and, ask questions. the answer you get will probably depend on who you ask, a carb guy will answer carb, fi guy,fi. research and understanding the part/parts will get you your best answer. good luck with your search, and keep us informed. i am curious on how you decide............ |

| I'm no mechanic. At times I even have a hard time calling myself a parts replacer. I don't know squat when it comes to being a wrench. But I can spell ping, ping, ping. pre ignition detonation = ouch, ouch, ouch. Been there done that. Maybe the market has made a few improvements in the past few years. If you want to get into any high compresion beware. It's a oversize lawnmower. How complicated do we want to make it. If I could I'd rip out the elcectronic ignition on my 06 Road Glide and throw it in the garbage. And remember Ping... Ping....Ping... |
