5 Speed Trany Vs 6 Speed Trany - What's Better

Need to change out a stock trany on my 97 Heritage, too many issues with it over the past year - it locked up after 2nd gear. Had it in the HD shop last summer and they were able to do something to fix it but again today it acted up and would not go past 2nd gear.
I am looking into replacing the complete transmission and would like some feedback on staying with a stock 5 speed or moving onto a 6 speed transmission.
Your thoughts and input are appreciated !

Hell if you're replacing it anyway, to me it would be a no brainer.......go with the 6. JMO I don't do much highway riding only once in a while, but above 65mph, a 6th gear would be king!

Agree....if you are planning on replacing regardless.....I would go with the baker 6 speed.....or something similar.....think that I have heard the baker is good!!! I won't spend the money to change, but if I HAVE to change.....might as well upgrade!!!

if ya decide on the 6 speed...a baker is hard to beat, and you will use your cases...."readers digest version".....pull side cover and remove old gear set, install new gearset and side cover..........not a hard job at all.

I absolutely positively with no dought love my Baker! I let the steelership talk me into putting a Harley 6 speed into my Road Glide and I wish it was a Baker. If you have it spend the extra dough. The Harley trany is slow to shift, clunks, grinds, ect... the Baker clicks right into gear every time. The extra gear is great if you have enough power to push it.
