| Here's a good one tranny fluid up the cable
Hey all,
Here's a good one. . . 03 dyna with a braided clutch cable with tranny fluid creeping up the cable, gathering in the adj boot then leaking out and down. . . big mess. I check the Oring at the tranny cover and no leaks around there. it is definitly coming through the braided cable. . don't know if it's pressuring fluid from the tranny and up the clutch cable and/or if there's a seal inside the cable itself. never really tore apart a clutch cable to view its inners. any suggestions??

| The adjuster should be higher then the tranny, and the trans is vented so it would be very hard for fluid to travel up that cable. Have you recently purchased the bike? Reason I ask is that some use car auto trans fluid to lube the clutch cable instead of oil and that could explain it. Only other thing I can think of is pulling the clutch is maybe pulling some fluid with it on the cable, and not going back in when released so is "racheting" fluid up the cable. | |

| reese mentioned it....check the vent...if plugged, pressure could run it up the cable..also make sure the level is correct.

| tran fluid in cable thanks for the response
thanks guys for the responses. tran level is good, vent clear. found out that there's a seal inside the cable about an inch from the cover and it may be whacked. ordered another braided cable.

| Just went through this with my '04 FLHRS. Vent was plugged thanks to our
local "dirt dauber" population...for some reason they are attracted to motors
...ever look under the cowling of an outboard after it has sat for awhile?
Anyway, the mechanic called it as soon as I described the situation to him.

| Trany fluid up the cable
I had the same problem. The tranny fluid was leaking around the end of the clutch cable, and running up the cable and dripping down under my cam cover. What a mess!! I changed over to a hydraulic clutch, ( I have wrist problems), and the leak was gone. | |
