Question Looking for FatBoy Exhaust Advice

I am wanting to upgrade/change the exhaust on my '04 FatBoy. It has stock exhaust on it now. I want something a bit louder/rougher. Looking at V&H ShortShots. I know I will have to tweak the EFI. Anyone else recently change exhaust on FLSTFI? Looking for opinions and advice on sound, power, and looks. What have others bought and how happy are you with it?

Got an 04 Fatboy sitting in the garage now. Have V/H Bigshot Staggered's on it. They look great and sound great if you like LOUD <grin>. I bought the "quiet " baffle for them, but they are still a little loud at idle. They improved the looks and performance of the bike a lot. They sound great when your hammering it.......

Did you have to tweak your EFI when you put them on? DId it hurt or help your low end torque?

Yes...........I had to go with the stage 1 upgrade. My bike has a carburetor, so all I had to do was rejet the carb and upgrade to a free flowing breather kit. You would have to do a re-map if you went from the stock exhaust.
They helped my low end torque. The bike runs great in all ranges. I have heard of some low end torque issues with drag pipes and also some of the shorter pipes, but the "bigshots" would not fall into either of those categories. By no means am I an expert in exhaust systems, just know what I like.....

You definitely should remap your EFI. You can go with the canned map from the dealer but you will probably get better results with a SERT or PC. Both will allow you to set your EFI for the best performance of your particular setup. There will be some others chime in on the best pipes. I understand you can expect the best performance from a good 2-1 pipe.
Good luck.

I have a 1999 Fatboy with V&H Pro Pipe 2 into 1. I also have a cam, Mikuni carb, etc. It preforms very well. It looks and sounds great too.

I have an 05 Fatboy with Big Shots Staggered. Really runs great and is very loud, I just ordered Big City Thunder baffles to see if there claim is true about more torque and mid range. I have a modified CV carb with an open K&N air filter. I have run Vance & Hines pipes on the last 3 fatboys that I have owned and they all work great and have good loud sound. On my 90 Fatboy I have early model HarleyDavidson slip on mufflers, (pre Screaming Eagle stuff) much better than the present Screaming Eagle exhaust. I'd like to try a 2 into 1 from Super Trap. I here they work very well also. Lots to choose from out there due your research, everyone has their own favorite.
C all U N Sturgis next weekend. dw
