| Just bought an 07 Heritage.....everything is stock. My last bike was an 04 Fatboy with the stage 1 upgrade and Vance and Hines Bigshot staggered exhaust. They were a little to loud for my liking....The new bike has a great sound, but I would like it to be a little louder but not as loud as the Bigshots. Now that I am through rambling, here is the question. Can I alter the stock exhaust someway to give the bike a little more noise, hopefully that low rumbling sound? If I can, do I need to add a race tuner or PCII or anything else to adjust for the minor alteration to the exhaust.
I have read past post where folks altered their stock exhaust and seemed to like it. I think this bike may be a new breed with the O2 sensors and such and I dont want to screw it up over a few bucks. You guys never led me wrong on the Fatboy, so let me have it <grin>. |

| for what it is worth, i would listen to some bikes and find a few that i like and question the owners.....it is hard to tell what your bike sounds like now, and wanting it a bit louder, but not as loud as your older bike  once you find what you like, then shop for the same. hope this helps a bit.... |

|  Hey Bro, I have a 07 screamin eagle road king with stock pipes and V&H Classic slip ons, good deep tone and not to loud, the se has the high air flow breather already on it, i went with V&H Fuel Pak instead of power commander, have all kinds of low-mid range (and more top end than i need) we just got back from Myrtle Beach, S.C. (1,000 mile round trip) avg. 48.5 mpg. 90% of trip was at interstate speed riding two up with luggage. I'm changing over to V&H True Dual Big Shots, I will sell you these slip ons cheap if u are intrested.

| I'am not sure on the newer bike but on my 03 E Glide I took the stock muff's off & drove A 1/2 in pipe down the middle , knocked out some plug's that looked like slugs / freeze plugs from a car block , brought the sound up to were I could here it Dkin your pipes are different then his |

Cowboy, I was thinking about the same thing as you did. heard it worked for others. I was just a little concerned about doing it on the new bike. Was hoping someone else had tried it already on an 07. Thanks for the info, if I decide to take the plunge, I'll let you know how I like it.
Dkin.....a buddy od mine has the VH slip ons on his roadking and loves them. I heard them and that is the sound I am looking for. Those, however, wont work on mine. As of now, VH doesn't offer a slip on for the softail. I had a set of bigshots on a fatboy that look great on a heritage, but are way to loud for me. Thanks for the info tho. |

| The Motor Company is getting pretty tight on what you can do to the exhaust systems and not void your warrenty. Knocking out the freeze plugs is one thing that they can cancel the warrenty for. Also installing any kind of fuel injection tuner ( fuel pak, power commander) and any pipe or muffler that does not have an EPA/CARB Executive Order certification. If you do the switch, save your stock stuff in case something goes wrong and you need to switch back to stock to take it in and get warrenty work performed. The EPA has come down hard on Harley and with the "improvements" they've made they are getting downright tight on warrenty work on modified bikes. With that said, the V&H slip ons do meet requirements and the latest version of Power Commander has an EPA stamp of approval. |

| They can not void the warranty on the bike for knocking out the mufflers, the only warranty part that would void is the muffler it'self.
If something happened to the motor they would have to prove that your knocking out the plugs caused the motor to be damaged, highly difficult.
Just so people know, making a change to your car, truck or bike, vacuumn, fridge etc doesn't void the warranty and you don't have to use the OEM stuff to maintain it or replace to keep a warranty in place.
Thats been fought out in the courts already and a federal law protects you, Magnusson Moss -FTC
For the pipes if you just want some slip ons
Khrome Werks, Cycle Shack etc check with all the manuf those are good sounding slip ons. |

No doubt I am going to do something. As I said before, I want something just a little louder than the stock. Did not want to have to re-map unless necessary, but will if I have to. Will I have to remap if I knock out the plugs, or use the slip-ons you listed?
Plan on taking the winter to decide what is best for me in the long run (pipes, breather kit, re-map, pcII, SERT, Fuel Pak, whatevere, etc,) but wanted a little noise in the mean time <grin>, without having to change a lot. Thanks for the info tho, it wasn't worth voiding the warranty and I am happy thats not the case. |

| If replacing parts voided warranties there would be no aftermarket for new bikes under warranty.
A filter, powercommander or SERT and a set of slip ons will really help wake up the bike, sound and power wise. |
