The young and dumb theory is played out thousands of times a day. Not saying I've never done anything outside of the law when I was that age or now as a matter of fact but when you see these guys racing in and out of traffic that is moving 40 or more miles an hour slower than they are........one of these days they will be a decal on somebodies trunk. Sure I went out and risked my own neck on an open stretch of road taking it to 100 or more but the things I see em do these days boggles my mind. I was driving back from Costco earlier tonight on the freeway and a guy came by me on his bagger with some pipes and before I saw him, I heard him coming. He wasn't doing much over the limit so it was a relatively slow pass but I knew he was there before I had a visual. It gave me a warm and fuzzy bike rider moment.

just last week a group of Jappers were out riding when the 22 year old decided to open it up to about 100mph >he went into a long sweeping curb with grooves cut into the pavement & lost it> his body crashed into a guard rail>>RIP

we get a bunch of those that either become hood orniments or just plain old loose control here at Wilford Hall....have 2 right now....at least one was hit on the base, he had right of way (no stop or yield sign) and a car that had a stop sign blew through it...ON BASE!!! he was fully geared up, but broke some bones. Other one on the floor, I don't know as much about on the details.....

Not a clue....my guess is that depending on the entire situation, cage driver got failure to yield, running stopsign, maybe something with injury....probably racked up LOTS of points both on the TX DOT side AND on the military side.....and at 12 points, not able to drive ON BASE... course, also depends on if the driver was military or dependent.....makes a little difference as to what happens in the military side of things....also of interest is that the Biker is one of our DOCTORS (ok, so he is either an intern or resident)......

Would you believe this. I have just been for an M.O.T. at a local shop and he failed the bike because of the SE pipes I then rode home refitted the HD standard pipes back too the shop "PASS". back home SE pipes back on then rode passed the shop just to let him know the MOT was not worth the £34 or the paper it is printed on.
Rant over.
(MOT UK test after the bike is three years old to prove itis roadworthy)

Reminds me of when i lived in Phoenix and had to do the emissions test. The only way my shovel would pass was to lean the S&S 1/2 turn. It ran like **** but it passed. I would wait until it was my turn next. Lean down the carb, push it into the test area, pass the test, push it out the door and richen it up right in front of the guy. he didn't give a **** all he was doing was collecting money for a piece of paper. I personally think loud pipes (over stock) sound cool, but I also think the point is about performance. In order to get the max out of a bike, it usually requires modifications to intake, carb, and exhaust. More air in, thru, and out. That's where the "loud pipes" come in--- when we suck more air into our bikes, it has to get out. Stock pipes can be very restrictive. However, there is a somewhat complicated formula that involves way too much to go into right now, but the bottom line is that straight pipes tend to vent to fast and undermine most carb and intake modifications. That's why we hear the "pop, pop, pop" on deceleration of the bikes with straight pipes. I also believe that in many cases straight pipes tend to make a motor run richer. In my opinion, dump the stock pipes, put on less restrictive pipes or mufflers, tune the carb to the optimum 300 PSI back pressure with baffles installed. Results--peak performance, pipes loud enough to be noticed, max performance.

everyone likes the sound of a well tuned harley with non stock pipes.....what folk dont like is those same pipes being rapped at 3 am in residential neighborhoods. or waiting on lights to change and goofy is blipping his throttle to 4k...or goofy runnin in parking garages trying to set off alarms...we are unable to police ourselves, and now we are paying for it.....

I am running the V&H longshots on my 89 blockhead dresser & the bike runs fine with them>>gets loud enough when you twist the throttle>>>runs even better out on the open road>>also running HSR42 & the ends of the pipes are coloring light grey>>this is with the 22inch spiral core baffles that came with the pipes

bigbreather is right. Straight pipes or "drag pipes" as they are sometimes called are strictly for drag racing, balls to the wall from point A to point B, of course they sound cool. But selecting a set of pipes for your bike requires some research. The folks that make the pipes put a lot of time and effort figuring out what it takes to get an apropriately built and tuned engine to get reversion waves going back into the engine before the valve closes or being as they say "on the pipe". I love it when you can hear the performance increase plus feel it in the seat of your pants! Hope the government never takes that away form us. AL
