| just got 99 FXST
I like the look of the 2008 FXSTC handlebar arrangement
Mine has short curved back risers with short standard bars.
Questions
What size is the stock handlebar on both 1" or 1 1/4" ?
( sorry I dont have a caliper)
I'm thinking I can just get a medium ape or buckhorn to get the look I want
But I mat need to replace my curved risers w/ straight ones.
My goal is not real tall rather a medium rise / pullback. ie stock FXTC
Does anybody know what the stock size is?

| To get that look, you can easily get those parts. I don't know for sure that those risers will fit on your triple trees, but the chance is good. Check with the parts guy.
I put Deuce risers on my FXST. They fit perfectly, and the cables still worked. Keep in mind that if you change much with the rise you might have to get all new cables. |

| from what i've seen on bars they go back to the stardard size where they clamp to the triple trees and at the controls. you may want to make sure they're drilled so you can run your wires inside the bars. so really the dia. is up to what looks good to you. i think most bikes come with 1" from the factory, depending on the bike. hope this helps  |

| I'm thinking 1" for any stock handlebars as well. I know I didn't answer that the first time. I got sidetracked.
Well I'll be damned. I just happen to have a parts book in my office...
It looks like most of the stock bars are 1". I'd say that would hold true unless you have a Screaming Eagle or something that the dealer customized in an effort to raise the price. There are a lot of "custom" (not stock, but still H-D brand) bars that are 1 1/4". In fact, they have a fat bar riser kit to go with the any of the 1 1/4" bars available, and they look a lot like that FXSTC you were talking about. If you have the 2008 H-D parts and accessories catalog, they start on page 618. |

| I get it.
Most stock bars are all 1" where the grips & Riser clamp goes.
The rest is all BS for that bigger badder meaner "look"
The pic is of my ol sporty The bars were perfect & thats the look I'm trying to achieve...dunno if they call those buckhorns or mini apes???  |

Those would be perfect for me if they were just a hair shorter.
Wonder if they make mini mini apes?
Whats the rise on yours? Brand? Did you have to change all cabling? |

| They're stock from H-D, I didn't change them at all. I WILL however, in the future, change over to hidden cables as much as I can. I love the bars, they are perfect for me. I will measure the rise next chance I get and post back for you.

| 1.when changing the bars take into consideration the mirrors. often when it comes to buckhorns or bars with different "pullback" it can be  when it comes to adjusting them. sometimes the company will warn you sometimes not 
2. if you're going to run the wires inside the bars. the bigger the bars the easier it is to run the wires, and you can get more wires inside them for any possible future mods too  |

| Update....
Well being somewhat obsessive /compulsive & having the patiense of a rabbitt.
I bought a set of 10" mini apes & 2" chrome risers
Thinking I would eait til next week & get a pro to change em out cuz I sposedly needed at least new brake lines...
Brought em home laid em up there next to the old ones & said "Hell, I dont need to pay some shop bags of $$ to do this I can do it"
hahahahaaaaahhaaaaa
First , I got them aLL CHANGED OUT & they look great ! Juat like a brand new FXSTCustom
The electrical wires all fit nicely although I'm gonna have to drill holes for the keepers to attach ( no biggy)
The throttle cables fit but I prolly should get them changed out
PROBLEM caused by me- The brake line ( to the front caliper ) fit fine even tho everyone told me I'd have to at least change that one $60...
It fit but I pinched the line while working on it & rendered the front brake useless til Monday !!!! I'm gonna have to replace it now anywayy!!!!
Funny thing is in the change out I guess I tugged on the throttle controls & knocked the accelerator pump adj out of whack again cuz after a test ride it ran like sh*t! It idles great but runs bad!
So in my effort to get my bike the way I want it RIGHT NOW & do the work myself I've made it look great but not rideable til the stores open Oh Bother!!!!
Bottom line ...It looks fantastic. The front control arrangement is perfect
I love ridin it , workin on it, cussing it & lookin at it  |

| are your hands falling asleep due to excess vibration in the bars?? or placement? there shouldnt be a lot of vibration in the bars. can you post a pic of the bars on the bike??? that may help. |

| JMO but I bet your carb problems are due to the throttle cables binding or pulling on the throttle assembly, JMO you went 10+2 or 12 inch that's very close to being able to keep stock cables but you'll probably need 2 or 4 over cables, that's what they call them.
Lift the tank and check the throttle cable routing, you might be able to find an inch or so to help with the cables however because you broke the stock brake line I'd go SS braided coated (no scratching the paint) and a better brake feel at 2 over brake line.
There are several places to get them in the area, call Pete at Chopper Design in Longwood, he might have them in stock, or Millers in So Daytona on US1 might have them in stock.
Check with them on the amount but I bet you need 2 over cables and brake line, remember it has to turn as well. |
