| I have an 07 FLHT
Electra-Glide Standard
I was just wondering if anyone here has used the V&H FUELPAK ?
The good the bad the ugly,I do understand it does not give you as much control as the Power Commander.
I have just ordered Vance and Hines V16719 slip ons,the Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage I Kit I was debating between PC3 and V&H Fuelpak I chose the V&C FP over the PC3 mainly for the Cost diff. and ease of install.
Research showed that with the other two upgrades Air and Exhaust I could have trouble with the mapping,I did not want to take a chance of messing anything up,I'm not really looking for tons of power increase just a bit better performance over stock.
Thanks for any advice or opinions! |

| I think that you have at figured out.
I have been doing a bunch of research regarding the PCIII and V&H FuelPak as well. Of all the advice I received, only one person suggested the V&H FuelPak... mostly because you can't tweak it as much, and it doesn't allow for future considerations. However, I also do not have V&H pipes.
The point is that V&H is gonna work better with their pipes than other pipes... and if you know that you don't want any future upgrades, then perhaps the best thing to do is to save yourself a couple of bucks.
I also agree with you regarding ease of installation. I was referred to a guy named Jamie at Fuelmoto ( Fuel Moto USA - Power Commanders - Exhaust)... he will COMPLETELY map the PCIII BEFORE shipping it out to you. This guy has completed dyno tests on practically every combination of pipes and ACs, and has saved the maps of them all. So that when you buy the PCIII from him, you tell him your bike, pipes and AC types, and he will map it for you based on his previous dyno tests. I spoke to them on the phone on Friday (2007-10-19), and they suggested that once they map it, they don't even suggest a dyno test after installation... it is THAT good. The price was also competitive as well.
I will be ordering mine soon. I'll try to keep you up to date on how it works out.
Cheers! |

| What I was really looking for was help on basically how dependable the V&H system is,I'd read where somebody had lost an ECM due to the power commander.
I don't know how often something like that happends,Maybe he connected something wrong or had a virus that got installed he'd said he had it for about a month and it worked good then it fried his ECM (man I bet that was expensive)
As I get older I tend to follow the K.I.S.S. system Although I have to keep reminding myself of it,Keep It Simple Stupid.
How this whole thing started for me was I bought the bike new just a little over a month ago It seems to run a bit rich I called up the stealership and spoke with the service manager,I figured since the bike was at the time less then 1 month old they would make adjustments to compensate for flaws from the factory.
The bike was the last brand new 07 there,So I got a pretty good deal on it,But it's really hard to say when it was actually built it could have been there in the dealership since mid 06.
Anyway they told me I would have to pay for them to adjust the ECM and for any downloads that may be I'd need.
I thought that was B.S. maybe they should have checked it out better before they delivered the bike the day I bought it.
I really didn't know any better as this is my first HD or I would have insisted they do downloads/updates before I took it.
The service manager told me I should get a Power Commander and of course he said they should install it,at a cost of about $600 parts and labor (what a rip off!)
I planned on installing some slip on's which really would'nt be any problem but with the bike running rich as it is after doing some research I figured I'd best do a stage 1 upgrade not that I really wanted to spend the $$ to do it I felt more like it was required then an option. |

| the pc is very easy to in stall. the hardess is finding somewhere to stick everything, actual hookup is nothing. as far as a pc harming the ecm, i doubt it. this bring up a great point when it comes to the diff between pc and the others. pc doesn't go into the ecm and change anything, instead it intercepts the signals being sent to the ecm and alters them to meet what you program into the pc via the map. the others actually alter the ecm programing. |

| It sounds a bit unusual that a new bike would be running rich. Normally, they seem to run a bit lean to meet emissions requirements. Either way the PC should let you get it straightened out. Good luck. |

I thought maybe at first it was the fuel,I use no less then 93% octane I even tried a tank of 89% just to see if it would change was the same.
It's not really that big of an issue I've just reached the 1k break in and I need to put it in the shop I plan to use the stealership,Just because of warrenty,I want to install the upgrade parts first then have all the fluids changed and have it looked over,I guess if they do find anything wrong while they do an inspection it should be coverd Excluding the aftermarket parts I install. |

I wouldn't install anything on the bike until they diagnose what's wrong. Nothing to do with warranty but you have a Dealer that seems to be bs'ing you on fixing the problem, so don't add anything else they can point out and say "well you added a watchamacallit, and that's your problem"
BTW how do you know it's running rich? 99.99999999% of bikes coming from the factory are lean. The only way one would be rich is if the ECM or injectors are dumping fuel. In any event that would be a warranty issue and you should be paying nothing to the dealer to have it checked. 06's and 07's have two year unlimited miles warranty.
The "$600" fix is BS, if you drop on a powercommander, fuel pack whatever, you can add or subtract fuel but the only way you'd know you did it right is to put it on a dyno with a Air/fuel sniffer.
How is your gas mileage, you should be in the mid 30's on average unless you flog the living heck out of it and ride at 80+ mph all the time.
Powercommanders won't fry ECM's as said before they dont do anything to the ECM but alter the signals to tell the HD parts to do things differently than what the ECM wants. IE more fuel, less timing etc.
Fix the problem or perceived problem first then move on to adding power adders. |

| So I got up early yesterday,Installed the slip on's,No problems Installed the shorter 9" windshield, took the air cleaner box apart and installed the A.N. Big Sucker,Removed the ECU installed the Fuel Pack & mapped it to the bike.
Everything was really pretty easy to do,The air filter assy probly took me the longest to do I just took my time and was carefull to install the gaskets properly, those 4 little O-rings could be a pain, they slid out of place a couple times.
Started the bike up,Now it sounds like a Harley should!
Throttle Reponse is very good,No popping or anything.
It was a nice day yesterday I rode it as much as I could.
I live in Ohio so good riding days are pretty much numberd,I do plan on riding through the winter when it's not snowing or raining.
Thanks all for the feedback and opinions! |
