Hi, my uncle has a 2007 softail with what he tyhought was the stock 96". Well it has been modified to the 103" Can I drill his stock (quiet) pipes? His grandson just got the nightster and blows him away in the loud department.. LOL. Thanks for all you do here. Jeannie

i've heard tell of peope doing it but never heard anybody any to happy with the results. probley be better off with slip-ons in the long run

i ditto what skull said.....yes you can drill the pipes, yes they will be louder, but you will probably experience power loss and the pipes will sound tinny loud....not pleasing to the ears......slipons is the way to go....

Why not try a set of Big City Thunder baffles? I don't know if they make them for your pipes but it is worth a shot. For around $80 they'll certainly give you some serious sound!

i drilled out my baffles, on my tour glide.and they sound great!!!!
i took a 1/8 drill bit, and stated out with 4 new holes, still was'nt loud enough so i added another 4 holes. wich made it even louder, but still not loud enough, so i then took a 3/8 drill bit and went back over all the holes, and did it ever come alive!!!! just the sound i was looking for!!!
there is a term here in texas.....called racking the pipes o ya they make a sweet sound!!!!
but i did have to rejet the carb, that part is very important....

You can hollow out the stock pipes BUT you will need to Have A Baffle in there somewhere The engine has to have some back presure do as voodoo says & look up BIg City Thunder Baffles , You'll get good sound & the back presure for the bike I have a set in my E glige with hollow pipes about A year now You Just might have to remap your bikes fuel inj systems

They do give that nice deep throaty sound, don't they Cowboy. I love mine. They are loud but I get complimented on the sound alot.

I have riders tell me all the time how go it sound's , Had a guy ask me on Saterday about my pipes , He said he heard me pull in & came up to see what pipes I was running , so I told him He had a full set of true dules & mufflers fron rineheart about $800 I'am running V&H true dules (new from direct parts) & $20 SE slips on & the big city thunder baffles

JMO it's not worth the effort, keep the stock pipes in case your state becomes californized and you're required to get smog checks that way you can slip on your old pipes and pass visual inspection. JMO

A set of Khrome Werks or cycle shack slip ons are well under $200 a set, will perform better and have a better sound. The tapered units don't have removeable baffles but they have a good deep sound, the bologna or slash cuts are louder, but they put a lot of sound out to the side, so you'll have to listen to it on longer rides

You should consider a Ness Big sucker air cleaner kit and then either a SERT (Screaming Eagle Race Tuner) or PCIII unit to tune it.

Those bikes are really lean from the factory and adding pipes and a filter lean it out more, - heat-detonation, so you want to add some fuel.
