Side Cover Problem StreetGlide

I just had true duels put on my 08 Streetglide. Was messing around with side covers and noticed my side cover on left side will not allow removal because the exaust pipe is too tight next to the cover.Any one have this problem?

Would like to get side cover on and off with out dropping pipe every time. The exaust is Vance & Hines long Shot Duels.

I tried it with the saddle bag off and its still way too tight.....afraid if I pull any harder I will crack my side cover....I had the dealer put the pipes on and they never said a word about it not being able to get side cover off...maybe I just need to pull on it more.Thought there may be a trick I'am not doing...lol..

there are 3 pins that insert into rubber grommets. i pull the lowest one first then the others. i do pull a bit hard on that lower one, but it does come out. then i back it out twards the saddlebag.......

for as much as you will be in there I would just drop the pipe and factor it in to the repair cost jmo. I wouldn't expect the dealer or indy to do it any other way also.

Thanks Chuck....I will try some more and see what i come up with.

Ironhorse.....I agree that I may not be in there very much at all,but if I have any problems out on the road with a fuse it would really be nice to pop a fuse in and roll on.Hate to stranded on the road and need a dealer for a 5.00 fuse under a cover that won't come off....lol...Thanks for the reply.

Whomever put them on didn't get the pipe aligned properly,

Make sure the mount on the trans is in the correct position you can loosen everything up and move it a bit, should be plenty of room I've put on several sets for friends and never had anything blocked.

Thanks Cowboy,

Have you put the V&H pipes on an 08 Streetglides? The dealer put them on for me and if its an alignment issue I can get them to align it up more maybe.

Or maybe align it more myself.

wrong cover I guess I will have to get home and look at what you are talking about cause I can't see how the pipe can obstruct the fuse cover that much

haven't put them on 08 yet but on three 07s street glides and 1 07 Ultra, and none block the side panels, They come close when it comes over the top of the primary.

I would just make sure things are installed correctly, there is a bracket on the trans that if you put it on wrong might jack the pipe up a bit.

Go back to your dealer and tell him of your alignment issue. There's not a lot of clearance between the pipe and the cover, but there is enough to pull out the side cover to clear the rubber grommet in the frame. I tilt the cover slightly by removing the bottom post first, then the top right and slightly twist the cover to pull it free. Reverse the order to install the cover.

Well.....here is what I came up with...there is no adjust under the primary. Its straight out of the motor to the rear tail holder.I tried every comination and there was not enough space between the bottom rubber grommet and the cover. I removed the two rear 7/16 tail bolts and pulled out on the pipe and had just enough room to get the cover out the bottom and did not have to take the pipe loose at motor.

Its ok not a real pain in the ass as taking it loose from the motor would be.

One of you guys gave me the idea when you said there may be bottom adjustment holder. On the 08 V&H pipes they only used the rear tail hanger and motor to hold the pipe. Not sure but to me the 08 Streeglide looks exactly as the 07 Roadking custom except seat and gas tank area, but apparently they changed the pipe for a reason.

Thanks for the all the help to all and I hope this may help another with the 08 Streetglide and V&H duels.

You should have a mount to the heads on the flange

A Top Transmission mount at the back of the primary it fits to the starter bolts and the pipes come with a shorter bracket from V&H if someone used the HD bracket it would be out of place,

Finally two bolts to the muffler at the rear.

Hey hroaking....yes there is a bracket there, but would I have to take loose from exhaust port? Will I need a new donut gasket after I take it loose from there to adjust the clamp?

It looks like the clamp is holding the pipe sheild more so than the pipe itself.

Thanks for your reply....I never saw the clamp the first few times...but its there as you say

i would loosen the nuts at the head, not remove them. your old gasket should be fine. after getting things lined up as they should be,,,,,retourqe to specs.....not everyone gets pipes on as they should be.....
