Stripped bleeder valve

hey men,

nice forum ya got here.

first post, here's the problem:
got a stripped bleeder valve on my back brake caliper. i used a six point closed end wrench and it stripped that bastard!

what's my best option of getting this soft metal POS out? should i just buy a damaged bot/nut removal kit, or can I get out of this the cheap way?

thanks!

Vice Grips tight on the valve, should be able to get a grip, they shouldn't be that tight though, no locktite either.

Once you get it out put in a new bleeder valve and bleed them again.

i tried a 3/8, thinking it was sae, and then used a 10mm.
the 10 stripped it.
i tried using regular pliers, but it wouldnt even turn then.
i haven't tried vice grips (i don't own a set ) but i'll try that tonight.

if you can't get it out with the visegrips, the parts stores sell a kit to repair bleeder screws. you drill out the old bleeder then tap it for an insert, then install a new bleeder screw. comes with all the stuff to do it. alot cheaper than a new caliper.

You might want to try a little penetrating oil and let it set awhile then try vise grips, or maybe put a little heat to it.

Heat is your friend with penetrating oil. Also tapity, tapity, tapity will help to break loose, do not use strength, you are obviously stronger than it.
Sometimes I put an air impact on really low pressure and let the tool do the work.
Something like this one,
Blows per Minute: 1,800
Speed RPM: 11,000
Advertised Torque: 75 ft.-lbs
Porter-Cable 3/8” Butterfly Impact Wrench - PT381 : AbsoluteHome

when using penetration oils, be carefull with heat.....use a heat gun, not a flame.....oils are flamable.........
