| Have a 2004 Sporty, wondering if the baffles are removable on the stock pipes? If so, has anyone ever done it? |

| I don't believe they are removable but I know some people "punch them out" with a hammer and a piece of pipe or rod. I would recommend getting a set of slip-ons or replacing the pipes all together. Be careful not to void your warranty if it still applies. Good luck. |

| The only way to remove them is to drill out the end of the muffler housing.
IMHO a set of cycle shack or khrome werks slip ons for $200 or so is a better choice as you'll get back pressure which that motor needs to keep the tq up.
Without baffles you kill the lower end of power.
Also do an air filter kit and rejet the carb and you'll pick up a lot of power. |

| Thanks for the responses, appears that the Cycle Shack Slip-ons are the choice of many enthusiasts. This is my first Harley and I'm torn with what route to go. I don't want to put a lot of $$$ into the bike this early. I'm looking for the most "bang for the buck." |

| hey...i've got a 84 xlx-1000,after 20 years it still had the stock exhaust on it.....my friend and i took a 1/2 inch bar ,sharpened it, and proceeded to knock the crap out of the baffles! as long as you still have the crossover pipe you really won't lose power, you will definately need too rejet the carb...i would also get a better aircleaner while you're at it, it sounds awesome!! |

| Now that sounds like a Alabama or Georgia muffler ironhead. Loved the post and almost laughed my rear off. Wish I could do that here in good old Germany "home of the brown pants".
I bet they can hear you coming for miles. Love it!!! |

| Did the Baffles come out in one piece? OR did you just put a hole through them? |

| we took the sharpened pipe and more or less broke them out....i did it while the pipes were on the bike....after that,we removed the mufflers from the bike, wrapped a towel around them and put them in a vice, then we made a long chisel and removed any remaining pieces....my boss just took a 3/8 piece of bar and put 8 holes like the numbers on a clock face through his baffles, mine are definately louder, but he didn't have to rejet his carb afterwards, his have a low rumble-like sound..mine are loud! |
