this forum turned me on to ZANOTTI MOTOR CO. INC, Butler, PA 16001 - Motorcycle, ATV, Trikes, Golf Cars & I've found their prices to be fairly good. For the Q-R det. sport, H-D price $299 part# 57838-08, Zanotti price is $247. Std. 58063-04, H-D price $339, theirs $278. Depending on what you buy shipping can drop when you buy more items. Was very fast shipping to me. Hope this info helps, as others helped me on this forum.

Many thanks rickster, I'll check that out ASAP. That little bit of savings can make all the difference sometimes. If a shield is $250 on ebay, $390 at Harley and say.. $330 at another store, the $330 starts to look real good.

yep the $3.30 looks good is shipping free with it ? you realy have to double check shipping cost as to what the price is , I have let some stuff go on epay because with the shipping cost I could go to HD & by new

I did just that last week! I bought a Horn cover for my sporty for $10.50 with $8 shipping. Now we both know that it costs around $4 max to ship such a thing, but I figured Harley would be more expensive and for $18.50 I didn't even want to bother looking it up, I've been so busy on the computer lately. Well, wadda ya know, Harley sells it new for only $1 more, list, and my dealer had it for $11.95.

I'm usually not so impulsive, so I'll chalk that one up as a warning to be more careful, don't want to do the same thing on an expensive item.

I'm fairly certain I'm going with the "Super Sport" size Harley shield. It doesn't have any bar across the front and is the quick release kind that leaves no hardware on the bike.

Anyone have any experience with the Harley Quick Release Super Sport shield?

My friend has a Dyna and isn't sure, but thinks that's the shield be bought and loves it (his bike's in storage). I'm not in a rush and might take a week or so before buying. That'll give me time to look at other brands more closely and see if one pops up on ebay.

Had 100 Bucks Tacked On My Shiping For My Front End, Neck Cup Kit And Tail Lite. 62 Pounds. Funny How I Looked At, If It Would Be Cheaper To Ship It All Seperate. It Was $5 Cheaper. Why I Don't Know But For 5 Bucks I Just Had It Sent Alltogether.

Last fall I put a HD detachable on my FXST, needed a turnsignal relocation kit which I didn't anticipate but it is what it is.
Wanted the shield for rain and those 45 degree North Country morinings when I'm going to work at about 70mph (or sometimes a tad more) a 30 mile trip.
The sheild definitely did the job of comfort enhancement, still get plenty of air flow but without feeling beat up at the end of the trip.
Mounting hardware is easy on / off and hardly noticeable when off.
Great for use on I-87 .
Are you planning on coming up the highway to Americade this June??

Good to hear from you jnputt. Which model detachable windshield do you have? I'm new to riding a motorcycle but have been riding around NYC on Italian scooters for a years, so I'm used to being on two wheels. I grew up driving a stickshift, so the transition to a Harley was easy, but not uncomplicated. It took some work getting used to balancing with my legs, I could usually wrestle the scooter with my arms if it got tipsy. I'm not sure about Americade, but will most likely check it out. I have a friend who lives upstate in New Kingston, near Margaretville. Maybe I could arrange a visit there and commute to the rally. thanks for the tip.

Well Lk George is about 4 hours from NYC.
Up I-90 onto I-87 north to exit 21
Normally an easy ride, but from my past experience on Sporty's you may find it to me an ironass event.
Great time though and 2 weeks later is Laconia / a whole different show.

My windsheild was a detatchable super-sport part#57965-97a
but for the Sporty you would go with part#57960-97
you may need directional signal relocation kit #68517-94a
and the docking hardware #58164-96a
A competent dealer would be able to tell you what is necessary for your particular ride.

Thanks jnputt. I looked at your shield and it's the Super Sport, correct? The number you gave me didn't get any results when I searched. These are the two shields I'm considering: 57838-08, and 58063-04

Also, I do have a Harley "Sundowner" seat that's incredibly comfortable. Only problem is it's butt ugly. I could use it for longer rides though. I'm trying to find a seat that's a good compromise between my cool looking Badlander and the "Sundowner. Just a little more comfort than the Badlander with any style at all would be nice.

My friend's farm is a little under 3 hours from NYC, so the Americade event might only be a little over an hour away. Now I'll have to look up Laconia, "a lot wilder" sounds good to me.

That # for the sportster that I sent you was from the HD parts catalog I've got hanging around, They've probably changed the numbers by now.
If you're handy with a set of wrenches, and don't mind a bit of nervous persperation, the Memphis Slims or Fats have a comparable product without the pricey upcharge for the H-D stamping.

Looking at the pics of your ride I noticed that you have the forward controls.

I added the Kuryakyn heel stirrups to mine and it made ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD AS FAR AS RIDER COMFORT!!!!!!!!!!!
I won't own a bike without them (unless it comes with floorboards that is).
