I have this really bigass (I believe it's called Sundowner) Harley Sportster seat. It's really comfortable and even helps to keep the bike stable because I have more control from my legs. The only problem is that it's butt ugly. It just ruins the Sporty's good looks. I have a Badlander seat also, and it looks cool, but it's not that great for comfort and control. I'd like to find a compromise between the Badlander and the Sundowner. Style AND comfort, is it possible? Any recommendations?
If you check out the two images in my gallery, you can see both seats for a comparison.

What would I do? When I was thinking of putting some miles on, I'd have the comfy seat. When I wanted to be a show-pony, I'd put on the Badlander.
If you've got a regular squeeze that is reliable, then stick with the comfort. If you're lookin' to impress the tatooed bimbos, then suck it up and deal with the pain of the Badlander. Changing seats don't take alot of time. My take is if you ride any two wheels you are already man (or women) enough to tell "stylists" to shove it if they don't like your style.....but that's just my way. We all have our own.
Frankly, I always find it good conversation when someone wants to debate my style. I enjoy telling 'em I like it my way - they can have it their way, on their bike, but I don't have to. I call it Freedom.

Thanks guys. It's difficult to try seats out for a 2003 model. At HD from 2004 on, you can see many of their seats in the showroom. On line, The Diamond Back solo seat looks good, as well as the Badlander "Gunfighter", I have to research Mustang seats and then there's other brands like LePera. It can be frustrating. I'd like to buy it right the first time if I can, so if any of you here have tried any these models let me know.

Thanks Mike, checked out your seat and it looks cool. I like the low profile styling, but unfortunately it might not be a good choice for me. I'm 6'5" and anything that shortens distance to the pedals isn't good. I've got forward controls on my Sporty, but even with those, I'l probably get custom made longer ones to fit me better. Hmmm... maybe if I went to a rally I could check out a few seat types.

Mike, I just checked out your bike in the photo gallery (looks good) and noticed your saddlebags over the rear fender. Do you get any marks or scratches on the paint? I just bought some saddlebags and would like to avoid getting mounts put on if I can just tie them down.

Go to a bike rally Laconia etc Corbin and Mustang will have booths setup, you can touch feel and sit on a seat, they'll even put it on your bike for you to sit and see how it feels
I like corbins, they are harder than HD but they don't compress like HD foam seats so they stay fit and in place
For touring I run the Dual Tour I have a hollywood solo but it's small looks very cool however it's about a 100 mile max seat before your arse gives in.

Thanks Roadking, those Corbin seats do look good. Great suggestion about waiting for a Rally to try various seats out. I think I'll do just that, unless I get itchy and see something interesting on ebay
*my license plate went missing today, so instead of riding, I spent the better part of this beautiful day at the police dept. and motor vehicles signing forms to get a replacement plate, uggghhh...
I'm going to use glue and allen wrench bolts on my next license plate holder.

lock tight red and tamper proof torx (you can use a screw driver on allen heads) and before you install you can get some screw/bolt head covers to deco them up some, spike, acorn, skulls, etc. and it's a good thing the bike didn't go with the plates

Run a wire from the battery to the plate from the positive terminal have aquick disconnect from it where you can get to it to deactivate so when you're on the bike it's not draining the battery LOL
Maybe you can hook up a taser
Sucks, part of NY I guess **** happens in big cities.

It;s funny here, you can go twenty years and nothing unusual happens and then all sorts of weird stuff can happen in a day or two. I'll definitely be careful to secure the license this time and will look into an alarm system soon.
