Dutch thank you for your email. I was on the DC scale . Color me embarressed I guess that is why they call it an Alternator and not a Generator. I went home and looked in my book again and you are correct it says 16-20VAC @ 1000rpm. I have 16-17VAC @ 1000rpm. I reved the engine and it went as high as 60VAC! Again thanks you saved me unnecessary work and a kick in the butt. Also Kidd thanks as I put on a new regulator but no output yet so I was thinking that I would disconnect the positive and negative output leads on the regulator that go to the battery and check without it being connected to the terminals to rule out any possible shorts in electrical system. What do you think will this work and I assume I won't hurt the regulator after all it is just a bridge rectifier I assume and a circuit to control the output voltage.
