I installed a pair of vance&hines slip on mufflers and have a leak where the muffler slips on to the header. I contacted v/h and they said to put a bead of high temp silicone on the header. Does this sound like the right way to correct the problem? Will the pipes get to hot for the silicone? It's rated to 700 degrees.
Thx for any help or ideas.

remove the slipons, then take those aftermarket clamps and throw them as far as you can, they will never seal.........get some hd clamps and torque to specs. no amount of silicone or welding will get the aftermarket clamps to seal...........................

HD makes the best by a far cry. nothing else out there i've been able to find that even comes close

You could also get some brass shim stock to act as a reducer or cut another slit in the pipe and yes, invest in quality clamps.

There is a copper permatex sealant you can use, spread it on the inside of the muffler it will seal it up and no leaks, you still need the clamp, HD clamps work well.

You can get a tube cheap at any autoparts store.
