I'm new to the forum. I bought a 2004 sportster this summer. I didn't realize how much I've missed ridding, it's been about 15 years. I ordered vance and hines exhaust, vance and hines rejet kit and a hypercharger. I installed them myself. My one jet stock was 180 and the slow was 42. Right now I've got a 195 and 45 installed. It still does not have the take off power I feel it should. I dropped it off at the bike shop yesterday to see if they would have any luck hooking it up to the dyno. The mehanic told me that vance and hines pipes were too large and that I would lose bottom end torque. I haven't got my bike back yet but he said they probably can't get it to run right either. Has anyone else had this problem? What else can I do to it to help. Sorry so long.

What pipes did you get, if you got long shots then yes they do tend to kill a bit of low end power, and make more power up top, a good dyno with the AFR reading attached will help tune the bike for more power.

Stage 1 bikes perform well to slip ons, not drag pipes, so if you got the look and sound you wanted WTH.

You still should make more power than stock but now what you could make with drags.

What I got was the straightshot HS. I guess thats what I get when you don't do the research before buying. I am totally pleased with the sound. I was just wondering if there was anything else I could do to help it. Thanks for the info.

ghostle, pick up a set of torque cones (also called reversion cones) and put them in; that will take care of your low end problems; or check out my response on the "rolled Thunder" thread; either fix will cure the low end power issue. you just need some back pressure.
