| Sensors anyone with efi have any sensors go bad, if so what kinda of problems did it cause. my vss (vehicle speed sensor) went bad according to the diagnosic seems the steeler is selling their share of these. |

| Is that the one on the top of the transmission? I have heard of a few of these giving problems but alot of the time I have heard you can take it out and clean the fuzz off of the tip of it and reinstall and you are good to go again. Todd

| it's that one, sensor looks clean, but the bike will barely idle, yet runs great once i hit 55-60mph. according to the diagnosic on the speedo it's the one |

| I wouldnt think that would have anything to do with running, just speedometer, wipe it off and reinstall it and clear codes and go drive it and see if the code comes back. Todd

Todd | once you clear the code it won't comeback. but, the system stores the defective part number, i quess till you replace it. when the bike idles it acts like it dosen't know how much fuel to to put out, tends to want to run lean in the 0-20% trottle range with the typical popping and farting. i really looked that sensor over good looks like new, nothing to really look at  . i even cleaned the plug in thing. i unpluged the PC111, ran the same. if it's this sensor, this thing will be like the bike is telling me how to fix it |

| I guess you can try a new sensor, but I have my doubts that is your problem, I would be more apt to think it was a crank position sensor but not a vss sensor let us know Todd

| Speedo sensor cleaning is common, hd had problems in early 00 I went through 4 of which they warranty'd two one as a courtesy.
They need to be pulled and cleaned but I doubt it has anything to do with bike performance, if it does they have made some changes in the ecm system..
You never know with the newer single data bus it could be in the loop.

| i'm really not thinking that info from the diagnosics is very accurate, when it comes to trouble shooting efi, we're on our own, seems HD only offers misinformation. anyone know much about the daignosics manaul? is it worth buying |

| well . . . . cleaned that IAC, seemed to work at first, then started again  , seems like the problem flucuates. it is now down right backfiring through the air intake. am i wrong to assume the crank senor is what keeps tract of the timing? does this sound like timing. oh too. .. . . duke thanks for getting me pointed in the right direction, that vehicle speed sensor thing was dead wrong, you saved me $55.00. well i just looked at the crank sensor. looks fine, cleaned it, bike runs the same |

| thats the hell of it, doesn't seem to throw a code. at first it had u1097,
--- loss of speedometer serial data EFI, or
--- " "" "" " " tsm/tssm
this code i cleared and it never came back, this code was for the powertrain, under "s" for security was a u1064
--loss of speedometer serial data tsm/tssm. or
--loss of tsm/tssm serial data instruments
i'm not sure i can trust those codes. once cleared they don't come back.  any ideas about the tsm/tssm. turn signals are fine. security crap works. then maybe it doesn't have anything to do with it, like the vss thing, |

| You dont know of anyone that you could swap a crank position sensor with do you? I hate to have you go out and buy one and that not be the probem, even if it threw a crank position sensor code alot of the times that isnt the probem because a failed start or kickback at startup can throw that code also check again for vacuum leaks around the intake.

| i'll check again. i tryed bypassing the pc111 again to no avail  don't know anyone who would willingly swap one out

| i tried it; nothing. think i have it narrowed down to one of two things
1. crank sensor
2. that IAC sensor
can't do the good olde fashion basics Fuel,spark, compression. to many things which could influence any one of those elements. things can be related on a EFI bike which follow no logical path  it's like learning all over again, or teaching olde dogs new tricks. any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated |

| could be the head temp sensor...this can give poor reading and it will not throw a code...eng wont idle or it idles at 3k rpm backfire pops runs fine cold but not hot or vice versa....that would be the first thing to look for...you need digital tech..stealer item or scanner to check out the true reading that this sensor sends to ECM
