| 2000 road king ECM Had a bad crank position sensor, replaced it. (crank position sensor shorted of external causes) have not run bike till top end job this week and now doesn't want to take gas. doesn't start quick like the injector model does, runs with no power. trouble code says cam position sensor. replaced that and still have the problem. HD book says replace the ECM. any other ideas to try first? |

| sorry must have missed these but have a few questions you say you replaced sensor of external problems what were they, any thing that could surge, IE welder, jumpers. and then you had the top end done, by who and are they reliable wrenches, cause a lot can be wrong on a simple top end, and i haven't got a book with me but after sensor replacement for the second time the book tells you if that doesn't work replace the ecm correct, did it run good before the first sensor, and after. did you look to see if the lines were in good order not pinched, did the injectors get hooked up ok and wires to the proper injector. i would recomend starting back at the start and recheck every thing you have touched or moved and eliminate possibilitys again before throwing down on a new ecm cause you can't get you money back if that isn't what it was and before you do throw down on a new one ask if the dealer has a test ecm you can try some times they get replaced wrongfully and the dealer can't even return them.

| I get the sense when you talk about top end work that quite a bit of work took place. I would want to see a chronological list of work to see if a particular event points to the culprit.
I also have questions such as --
Assuming this is carbureted, is it stock or aftermarket?
What parts were changed?
Is the ignition stock, SE, or?

Sorry Jaytee, I don't know what to do for you. Did the stealer fix it? | A little more info would prolly help get some suggestions on what's wrong, I'm guessing he's talkin about a carbed bike when he mentions it doesn't fire up as quick as the injected model. Even to say what the "external" source of the short was would help.
Like kenfuzed says tell us what you got and what was done to it, then I betcha someone will have an idea as to where to start or even have the answer.
