| Help.
I have a 1996 Road King FLHRI which has travelled 160,000 km and recently the engine was overhauled by reboring and fitting with 10:1 pistons
My problem is with the fuel system (this condition was also preexisting prior to the overhaul)
The bike runs extremly well when on a trip, however the spark plugs are fouling when used locally.
Several Harley mechanics have inspected the bike and cannot repair the problem.
Could fitting a late model fuel control module be a possibility? Any other suggestions?
I am getting desperate.

| i am not sure where your located, but 10/1 compression is a bit high for todays fuel. it sounds like your on the rich side, you dont state your fuel management system. if it is adjustable, maybe you need to get it on a dyno to get it leaned a bit,,,,,,i am no expert on fuel injection, but there are those on this site that are, and im sure they will chime in her in a bit........ |

| sounds like your're getting too fuel from idle to around 2000rpm range. in order to help you we need to know how you regulate your fuel. does it seem to run well around town? are you saying that the rebuild made no diference with this problem. are the plugs stock ones and gapped right, how about cams? |

| The 96 ECM is not programmable. To do upgrades you need to replace it with the ECM from a 98. Then download a new program that is closer to what you are running. The only drawback is there might not be a program tally matches your components. So, installation of a power commander will probably be the only way to properly tune the new engine. |

| Thanks for your comments
The '96 ECM is not programmable as VTBR8ER suggests.
What is the differance between the '96 & '98
Is this unit available in the US? I doubt if it would be available here

| The ecm is a standard part for the 98 and should be able to be bought wherever they sell parts for the Harley. If your local parts guy isn't willing to help you with looking it up let me know and I can get you the part number for it. Sorry, don't have all the manuals at home. |
