So here's a question: which system would you prefer (RK Custom) V&H True Duals or Rinehart...?? all opinions greatly appreciated...

From what I've already read I'm going with the Vance and Hines. The rhineharts have come into a series of product defects according to things I've read from owners on other sites like V-twin forum. They have a section of the forum devoted to exhaust exclusively and I've heard from too many dissatisfied rhinehart customers to spend my money on them. When CD dynoed them here and said the Vance and Hines showed much less reversion it was a done deal for me.

I have thouroughly scoured the tech articles you refer to... they're awesome... I wanted to hear the ground crew's opinion cause here's what I'm really up to... I'm gathering info for a purchase... what would I consider "living the dream" ??... a Road King Custom... what I like about it is that it's plain... plain bad. I'm 57, been ridin 30 yrs... never had "the dream"... this past summer I rented 3 RK's for a week each just to see... first a Classic... it obviously had pipes and was tweaked... way cool... but after 600mi... it felt like I was sittin too much on top of it...second was another Classic... untweaked, no pipes...bland and blah...Third rent was a Red Road King Custom... Stage I, Screamin' Eagle, pipes...Va-frickin-vroom...!! Hunkerd-down, smooth... you got it... fit me like a glove... over 750mi in 4 days... So what do I really wish to know... If one had no budget concerns, and wanted to set up a 103" RK Red Ryder of his dreams... How would you set it up... (what kinda cam etc)I know, I know... what kind of riding do you wanna do...etc, etc... I always hear the service dept say that... Look... I'm 57 not 27... I like to go slow... look and sound ridiculous cool... I also wanna be able to go 2-300miles to nowhere and back like a motha... Any and all ideas about my Red Ryder will be TOTALLY appreciated.

PS I have pix to attach but can't figure it out... I recall reading someone else saying that and there were instructions but I can't remember where I saw it... at my age brain cramps are normal...

If this site's systems are typical, post pictures like this:
1. Have your pic on the net someplace; something like www.Clubphoto.com etc.
2. Right click on the photo you have on the web that you want on this site. click on "properties"
3. Copy the URL found on properties
4. Type [img] and follow it with the url you copied with no space after the close quote. then finish it off by typing this: [/*mg] and it should display the pic. NOTE: the * in the last caption should be an "i". I put it that way so it wouldn't try top display a pic.
so, replacing the following *'s with i's, here's what it would look like:

replace the *'s with i's and you get this:

lets' say you are on this forum and your typing your little heart out and want to put in a picture. open up another window, go to your picture gallery (where ever it is, club photo or whatever) and right click on the pic to get the URL. highlight the URL. Now hold down your "Cntrl" key and while holding it down hit your "C" key. This copies the URL. Now go back to the post you are doing and type the [*mg] then hold down the Cntrl key and hit the "V" key. this will paste the URL. then finish off with the [/*mg] and its done.
just play with it till it works. type a note, load a pic and then just hit the preview button before you post to check it out first.
Dont worry, you'll get it!

how about my Road King 103 dream...?? that's the real reason I joined this tech thread... what ought I consider about setting it up... have HD do it...? do it after at a shop. there's a couple of shops around here that have been around for a real long time... how would a 103 run with EFI...what kinda heads...?? what about about cams. not so interested in top end range... more low and middle... I'm gonna take this forums advice and go with the V&H... what all else do I need to consider to make the Red Ryder really roar... anyone ever have one of these?? Muchas Gratias...

When you type in your post up top is a small yellow square button under the [color] drop down box. Click on it and paste in the URL (address on the web to the picture] and the image will show.


As to the motor you should ride it for a few months and get used to it and get any bugs out if they exist do a stage 1 hop up initially as the parts carry forward to any larger build. Do the HD SE High Flow air kit, upgrade the ECM to stage 1 and put on a set of slip on pipes, vance and hines, khrome werks, cycle shack etc.


For a biiger motor you can build a nice 95 inch that will wax any 103 off the showroom floor for much less money.

Depending on the type of riding you do cam selection becomes key to putting the power to the rpm band. Also is RedRyder Carb or EFI.

IMHO have the heads properly worked over for the cam you select. A good street cam for a dresser/RK is the tw-37B Andrews cams. Then if it's carb put on a CV44 and big bore intake.

Change the pipes to something that will make power then slip ons will probably outperform the true duals, Khrome Werks or wild pigs are good.

A decent igniton or fuel system is the key, If you are EFI a Digital Fuel Optimizer (DFO) will allow you to add fuel to the system like tuning a carb.

Powercommanders are more complicated (EFI again) but allow the addition and reduction of fuel as well as changing the timing.

I have heard to many riders of all ages bitch about the rinehearts , I run the V&H true duels up front & samson fishtails out back good sound not to loud but can be heard I run a E glide with efi & when the time come's I have in mind to do like Hotroadking says , as I have a budget so ithe 88 will get a lot more miles before it get's the rebuild to 95 I t em 57 & been riding for over 40 years A buddy of mine has a RK with the 95 in kit & V&H's true duels & it carry's his bike real good with two up

I'm with Cowboy alot of people and getting rid of the Rhineharts, I'm running V&H True Dual Big shots on my Screamin Eagle Road King (110 c.i.) Removed their baffels and installed Big City Thunder's QC baffel, They brought up th HP & TQ, plus you will be heard
