First off, I'm new to this forum and I appreciate the efforts put forth by all involved.
My questions is;
I am debating installing a high flow petcock on my 01' Fatboy and removing the stock vacuum setup.
I realize that I must be careful to shut off the petcock at each shutdown to avoid flooding the carb, which is a habit I have anyhow.
Am I wasting my time doing this and stay with the stock set up ?

| what other mods have you done??? are you starving for fuel??
if the flow is ok, i would spend the money elsewhere, unless ya just need to replace it for more bling!!!!!  | |

Have you done anything to the bike that would make you need a high flow petcock?? Unlees you've done mods that need a lot more fuel and your stock petcock works fine. You know the saying; If it ain't broke ,don't fix it. |

| Basically I have numerous mods but the bike is staged one.
I already have the new high flow petcock, in high chrome of course, and it has been just sitting in my parts box for a while.
I'm presently not having a fuel flow problem.
Maybe it's because I have the petcock but I'm at the point of "if it ain't broke - don't fix it".
Just trying to find any advantages/disadvantages is all right now.

I am starting to agree with you........it ain't broke but you know how it is when you have a new part and "think" you must use it.
My fuel flow is fine but the stock petcock is getting "sloppy" as far as the on/off switch. Getting loose.
I forgot to mention that part. Oops, part of being a FNG here I suppose.

| well, if ya got it, and it is burning a hole in the tool box and it is really shiney...........go for it. no, there is no advantage to putting it on, just more chrome to polish!!!!!!  | |

Yep, it's shiny and as much as I hate polishing I may install it after all.
All of you have good points on the install.
I plan to cap off the carb end where the vacuum hose runs to from the petcock.
What a great guess, it is burning a hole in my tool box.
The worse part of this whole project is HD put the cross over line between the tank and the frame, which means one has to drain the fuel and disconnect the crossover before you're able to remove the tank.
Anyhow, guys I thank you much for your input...........this is a great forum !

| Take the new petcock and a few tools with ya and ride the bike until you run out of gas, that way you don't have to drain the tank. Then call a friend to bring ya some gas so you can get back home after you instal the new petcock
Or just siphon or use a small pump to suck the gas out of the tank. | |

| Why remove the tank.
Remove the seat and rear tank bolt, jack it up with a small board or top off a spray paint can, you should be able to get the petcock out, plus jacking up the tank pushes fuel forward,
Be ready for gas to come out anyway so no smoking!
Detach the fuel line and reattach, you'll need a band clamp.
All you need to do then is remove air filter and backing plate then pop off Vac line and put on a small rubber cap, you can get them in varied sizes at any auto parts store. I zip tie mine with a small zip to keep them on.
And yes you should get in the habit of turning off the fuel, if the float sticks you'll flood the motor with gas as it pours back into the motor.
BTW it will end up costing you more because once you have the high flow fuel petcock on the bike you need to put in cams, head work, pistons otherwise you've wasted a $100.... LOL | |

| Thanks again guys for the info and I'm certainly glad some of you can relate to a sloppy petcock.
Some people laugh but it's not fun to walk around like that beside the pointing an laughing wears a guy out.
I now have a tight petcock by the way and I'm not afraid to show it off.......
