I've read articles on this subject, but I'm not sure if I'm remembering everything; here is what I can remember:
1. Change all fluids (engine oils and such develop acids and shouldn't sit over winter in your engine)
2. Top off gas tank and add stabilizer
3. If your shop isn't heated, pull your battery and give it a full charge or better yet place it on a "smart charger" and store somewhere warm and dry. If your shop is heated, use aforementioned "smart charger" while in the bike and forget it.
4. Check tire pressure to ensure they are not deflating and causing flat spots...better yet put the bike on the lift (if you have one) for the winter (its easier on the tires and suspension).
5. Pull sparkplugs and use a fogging oil to treat the top end to fight corrosion; then replace plugs.
6. If rodents are a problem pack the ends of your exhaust with steel wool to prevent nesting in your pipes. (some people also use mothballs to keep other pests from chewing on wiring etc.)
Thats all I can really think of and I'm sure I've covered the important stuff. I've topped off my gas tank with ethanol blend and no stabilizer and had no problems...but YOU HAVE TO MAINTAIN YOUR BATTERY IF YOU WANT IT TO START NEXT SPRING!
