just checked the primary, chain looks good, specs say 3/8 to 1/2 inch free play.I have exactly 1/2 inch in free play.
should i adjust it to 3/8 and see if that helps,or any other ideas.if its not the primary slapping, what else could it be.and do yo think its safe to ride like this,it sounds right when riding, the only time you really notice is at idle.

No, if the chain is within spec it should be good. Can you tell where the "slap" is coming from?? Does it sound like piston slap?? Has it started making the noise since you did the 1200 kit??

I just got the bike last week, got a great deal on it,so dont mind doing work on it.it sounds like piston slap to me.it is only noticiable at idle when you give it gas it is slapping and knocking real loud, but as soon as you ride it goes away(as far as i can tell)

I'm just taking a guess, but seems like the jugs are out of round. Here's a link to a top notch shop that may be close to you, at least worth a phone call or email.

Thumbs up

If you have a mechanics stethescope (screwdriver can work too) check for the location of the noise. If all you have is a long screwdriver. Place one end on the location of the bike where you think the noise is coming from and place your ear on the other. It can aid in locating the noise and better help you diagnose it. Later man...

You can get an elcheapo stethoscope at an autoparts store, nice thing is you get the sound in both ears so when you work with the scope your brain isn't trying to process out sounds you're not interested in one ear while listening to the other.

Screwdriver works but the scope will really let you find the noise.
