Thumbs up Cleaning Out Motors

[FONT="Fixedsys"]IVE BEEN OVERHAULING SMALL BRIGS MOTORS(GO KART RACING) FOR 5 YEARS AND DID ABOUT 2 HRS RESEARCH EVERY NIGHT FOR CLOSE TO 3 MONTHS ON THINGS YOU CAN DO TO CLEAN OUT MOTORS WITHOUT RIPPING THEM APART.

I CURRENTLY PUT SOME "ROCKET FUEL" IN MY TANK WITH THE GOOD STUFF AND IT DID ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IM THINKING ABOUT SPRAYING SOME ATF IN THE CARB TO REDUCE CARBON BUILD UP IN MY 82 SPORTY.



I LIKE THIS SITE MOST !!!!!!!!!!! I SUSCRIBED TO SPORTYGARAGE AND GOT A GUY THAT SAID MY BIKE SOUNDS LIKE A PILE OF JUNK" THAT WAS MY FIRST POST JUST TO SAY HI TO EVERYONE " AND GOT SOME THAT TOLD ME TO NOT WRITE IN CAPS

I HAVENT GOT A NEGITIVE COMMENT HERE YET AND GOT MORE HELP IN 2 POST THEN THE OTHER SITE SO IM STAYING HERE!!!!!!!!!


ANY ADVICE ON REDUCING CARBON IN A SPORTY.....

I WAS USING METHONAL IN THE BRIGGSD MOTORS SO THATS WHY IM ASKING ABOUT THE HD MOTORS [/FONT]

I haven't done it myself, but some say spray Seafoam in the intake with the bike running helps loosen up carbon build up.....also some say you can use a spray bottle with water in it and do the same.

You'll get some A$$H#L*S , don't worry about em... good people here I'm sure you'll get a more detailed explanation soon on how to go about it.

Did you pick up a Factory Service Manual yet??? Best tool in the box

[COLOR="Navy"]I haven't used Seafoam myself but it's a popular product & one guy I know of who's specialty is 2-stroke engines that can carbon up real bad highly recommends it, primarily as a fuel additive. Plain ol' water in a spray bottle works quite well, as does spray carb cleaner like Gumout, as does auto trans fluid in a squirt can, which I happen to like 'cause it's not only loaded with detergent, but lubricates the top end. Only downside is it does tend to smoke up the neighborhood. And one guy I know with a couple Ironheads has been using Marvel Mystery Oil forever & a day. That'll smoke too, but it also cleans & lubrcates @ the same time. You don't want to use so much carb cleaner or water that you wash oil off the valves, cylinder walls, etc., but any of those methods will do a good job. Just use enough throttle to keep the engine from dying rather than revving the engine hard & the best time to do it is just before you're going to be changing engine oil & filter anyway.[/COLOR]

cleaning out motors

carbon build up can be controlled best by eeping the top end itself in good condition.the worst deposits are from blowby. a compression check as well as leakdown test is actually part of a complete service and should be performed on a reglar basis.deposits from contaminated fuels arent as much problem,but over time can form.carbon build up in later model bikes that use crankcase venting routed to the airfiltercan be corrected to an extent by the use of a puke can.i prefer prevention over repair,but if you have bought a used bike and want to clean deposits without removing the heads,some of the other post do list methiods that work. i would not spray water into a hot engine ass it can cause damage.cracked rings,pistons,warped valve,etc. seafoam and marvel mystery oil will both work on minimal deposits.seafoam being better.its a good idea to add to the fuel once a month also.before trying to remove deposits, i would suggest checking engine condition.this could save some time and money.no sense cleaning something with leaking rings. hope this helps. themotorsickledoc@yahoo.com

I take a small gun cleaning tool brass bristles and take off the exhaust and carb, then spray on degreaser and clean the back of the valves from the exhaust and intake ports, I do this every weekend, after waxing, washing and cleaning my bike, This year I hope to get more than 20 miles on the bike!

Actually, Seafoam in the gas and oil is a good cleaning agent, mix it properly per the instructions of seafoam to oil/gas ratio.

Some folks pull the air cleaner and start the bike then mist in water, using a spray bottle, (not a hose) and lightly mist water into the intake as it's running, the water will break down carbon.

I guess the question is , why, do you know or think you have carbon buildup>?

Also if it's a head breather, simply reroute the head breathers to a hose to the atmostphere (open end hose) this keeps the oil mist from going back in the carb (per EPA) and will result in cleaner insides.

BTW typing in all CAPS on the web boards is considered SHOUTING, so that is probably why someone posted about it.

Think about going in a room and having one guy there that just shouts everything out loud, well that's WHAT TYPING IN ALL CAPS means online.

Not being rude or mean to you, just explaining the how to and what fors of the net.

It's best to type in all lowercase,
don't worry about spelling or grammatical errors
we all fat finger stuff

Some people are grammer nuts and will correct everything someone types,
