Can someone answer my question?

I am looking for low to midrange improvement. If top end is improved also that will be great.

Which of these kit upgrades is going to deliver what I want? Or what will these kits give me?

I am looking to do an upgrade to my 2002 FXD. I already have a Dyno carb kit from HD and have VH shorties installed. I have 13,500 miles.

Both shops have suggested that I will be around 100T and 100HP.

I am looking to go with either a S&S 95 Hot Set Up Kit with the 585 gear drive cam and a new intake manifold at a cost of $4200.

Or what HD has suggested. They have said that I should use their Compressor Performance Heads, S/E Eagle Pro High Compression Pistons, S/E Compression Releases, S/E Ignition Pro Adjustable System, S/E 211 Cams(chain drive), Perfect Fit Push Rods, S/E Tappets, S/E Roller Rocker Arms, new Clutch Spring, Roller Bearing, Ball Bearing, 1550 Cyclinders, 2 cam tensioners, Cam Bearing, Cam Gear Retention kit and related gaskets for $4400.

I've got a set of heads machined by them, with valves, pistons & cams to match for the application. Think system rather than individual parts & they're good @ that.

These guy's know their stuff.... and you won't have extra parts laying around, you already have heads and jugs why not use them.

R&R cycles is a head man close to you. Hyperformance is a head man close to you.
I just got 1 set of heads, cylinders, pistons and gaskets from R&R cycles.
Got it in the bike and have another set on the way. Talked with Art in Parts.

Yeah, they do know a thing or 2 & a few records @ the Bonneville Salt Flats verify that I like the fact that they think "system" rather than individual parts & one setup I've got from them for an 883>1200 Sportster makes 95 HP @ the rear wheel on pump gasoline & is street legal.

All that depends on you, can you turn a wrench or are you wrenchaphobic.

The former along with the tools and service manual you can do this yourself, peice together some combo of parts and get a good runner.

However if you are the later, let the shop do it for you, either of the two you mentioned will be good for what you want as would a HQ solution, again the issue being who's doing the work.

If you want to do it yourself send the heads and pistons off to Bill at Bishop's Performance - Parts & Service for Harley Davidson, Buell, and other American V-Twins the stage 1 hammer heads will do a good job and he can bore your 88 cyl to 95, install the pistons with the rings properly gapped so you can install on your bike. The advantage is you have your original seasoned parts back on your bike, nothing wrong with new stuff either.

For cams I like woods they make great power, a tw-6H would rock your bike right off the charts with a higher compression 10.5 to 1 piston setup and ported heads, Woods rebel 43.5 carb or Super G with thunderjet...

Thanks for the information. Not really a wrench, do not have the time or space. I will look at R&R if they are in the area. I am inclined to keep all the parts from one manufacturer. Seems best to me. I will see if the local shps can rebore the existing cyclinders.

Systemworks, There is a shop in Munnsville that does good work. The name is Hillside Motorcycle & Machine. I got my "03 FXDX from Perfomance Harley in Syracuse. Lived in Norwich for a few years. Cummins Machine in Norwich is doing a set of jugs for my old 650. I don't know if they have the tourque plates to do Harley jugs. There are a few old timers around that work on Harley's.

I would say it's best to buy it all as a kit and you'll get the results or close to them you expect.

Hillside has a good rep from what I've read on HTT

Seems to me the HD deals probably a keeper you can ride into the dealer and get it fixed anywhere.

Systemworks, any of these head porters can put a package together for you that you'll be pleased with and get the results you want...just talk to them and tell em what performance gains you want and what range you want them in.

This dude is in yer back yard. I would call Scott and take my bike to him. He builds some bad ass bikes.
